How to proceed, missing a club.

I’ve been really fortunate in buying stuff online. Never really had any problems.

But you knew it was just a matter of time.  Got some irons in yesterday, immediately noticed the box was open a bit on the end. N or completely open, but enough to reach in and feel the clubs with your fingers. Open it up, and sure enough, missing a club.

I’ve messaged the seller, but my question is, do I go ahead a file a PayPal claim right away or do I wait to hear what the seller says? Guess I should have added earlier, it’s on eBay. Seller has over 2300 transactions, but only 93% positive rate.

Advice?

I’d reach out to seller right away , take several pics for evidence. Believe if it was purchased thru ebay at least before hand you had to go thru eBay , that might have changed , go ahead and file with eBay, if you and seller can’t come to a resolution eBay will have you covered.  Least that’s how it was when I had similar situation on there with a seller

Damn, that’s a pickle indeed!  I’d say wait and see what the seller elects to do as you have some time to file a PayPal dispute.  Depending on that response/outcome I’d file through eBay.  Take lots of pictures to support your position, eBay or PayPal will want them.

I try to put myself in the situation as a seller and I would probably offer a partial refund, like the average cost of a single iron online so you could try and find one.  Then I’d ask for more supporting pictures and call the delivery service to file a complaint.  Now, that’s assuming I did indeed ship the full set.

These days, I doubt the shipping company does much about it except refund the seller the amount equal to the missing club or the max insurance he paid for, whichever is cheaper.  There’s no way to know the seller didn’t ship it that way, which is all unfortunate.

Was the missing club pictured in the auction?

Which shipping/delivery service was used?

Im sorry to hear you are in this situation and I hope for a positive outcome for you.

Just out of curiosity- which shipping/delivery service was used?

It was UPS. Yes, nine clubs pictured in the add. It is an old set of Wilson Staff FG17 irons with Steel Fibers, 2-PW, and it’s the PW that is missing. If it were the 2i missing I’d probably be more inclined to some sort of adjustment, but unfortunately I think it’s going to be be difficult to replace just one club. That’s probably the only picture that is really relevant since it shows the open(ish) end.

Im really hoping he just missed putting it in the box.

This is completely not helpful but I would need a really good reason to deal with someone with 93% feedback.  Considering that, I would be more suspicious than I otherwise would be.  In general I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but 93% is about as bad as it gets.  I would be inclined to just want to send them back and get a refund.

What sort of things were the negative comments for.  This might tell you how much of an accident it was or was not.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

Actually most of the negatives are for smallish, nitpicky type stuff. Most of them, in my opinion, were not feedback worthy.
That was my thought anyway looking through them, and why I went ahead. I’m normally pretty cautious.
Also, since it wasn’t a huge amount of money even for just the shafts, I felt it was worth a chance. And actually, the clubs that did come in look good

I have a several older heads laying around - one of them might be a FG17 PW. It won't be in great shape - but if it's a playing set it could fill in. I'll be home tomorrow and can look at the stash.

I understand completely, a full refund may be more appropriate.

Glad it’s UPS, I’ve not had any issues with them.  I have had USPS issues for example with an adapter where they somehow delivered an empty package as someone slit a small hole and pulled it out (I’ve since learned to tape it to paper.

Either way, I hope it works out for you to be made whole.

That’s all true. The packaging was poor.

I haven’t gotten a response yet. If I don’t hear anything by tonight I’ll just go ahead and file with PayPal.

Use ebay return process instead of PayPal.  Use the "not as described" reason

Thanks. I’ll do that. Like I said, first time for me.

I ordered a set of irons that was described as like new and pics looked great.  Set that arrived was like a 6 out of 10.  The ebay return process was very easy, and ebay provides a return shipping label.

Awesome.  I still hope the guy responds and says he left it out. But I’m not overly optimistic.
