HATTON BLOWS HIS TOP OVER 18th HOLE IN ABU DHABI

I don't think you're going to find many people who agree with Tyrrell. While I appreciate him being honest with the media and saying how he feels, I would actually prefer to see more par 5's on tour play as true 3 shot holes. Or - at the very least - further penalize players who go for it in 2 and miss.

Hatton expresses himself " eloquently" as many of we regular golfers do

I prefer that to Rahm acting like he was robbed on every missed shot.

As for Tommy Bolt- he said his anger was an act- when the press started covering it, he played it up

"Putting allows the touchy golfer two to four opportunities to blow a gasket in the short space of two to forty feet."

Nice to know that I’m not the only one noticing that.

Nature and preserving it!!! UGH

Damn hippies are ruining golf! 😡

🙃😜🤣

It is often difficult to interpret meaning in these threads, but I do hope golfers realize that sustainable, nature friendly practices are the ace in the hole for the survival of golf courses.  There are many extreme groups that want to eliminate all golf courses.  Presenting a golf course as a "multi-use" resource will go a long way in the future of garnering community support for the existence of said resource.

I'll step off of the box now...  😁

LOL us Americans snap our clubs by bending them using only our hands, sometimes our knees but he had to step on it twice 🤣🤣

Or by tomahawking them.  The helicopter throw is much safer for your clubs.  I found that out the hard way, more than once.

You haven't lived until you tomahawk a 4iron into a water hazard. Bliss...

Hatton finally loses it after taking a 7 on day 2 and a 9 on day 3 but blames the hole design.

Is he right ? Should he be a tour-pro ?

He's a moaning tool (and is talking rubbish about a good drive giving him the right to reach the green of a par 5), but yes, he should be a tour pro as he's quite good at golf when he isn't losing his temper.

Tyrell Hatton is for me, without doubt, the most petulant, ignorant chump to play professional golf.

Having had the displeasure of watching his rude and unpleasant behaviour at a couple of European Tour events, I cannot but help root against the guy. I can go as far to say when it has come to the last two Ryder Cups when he has made the European Team, he is the only European golfer that I actively want to get beat whilst out there.

You couldn’t be more right. The public pays his salary, albeit indirectly, via support and Sky TV coverage, he does his best to upset the Tour’s support and his fellow-competitors.

He must have been coached by Mark James and his parents should have checked him as a baby when he chucked his toys out of his pram.

I must admit I was not a fan beforehand but at the Scottish Open in 2019 he played with JT and we watched them for the full 18. His behaviour and language that day was appalling. I get that these guys are in pressure situations but it was almost as if he seemed to want people and kids hear him using foul language.

Hatton is hilarious man. He yells at himself that he is the worst golfer on the planet while the ball is in mid flight.

I might be wrong, but I don't think he is saying he is entitled to hit every par 5 in two, but when it has to be played as a 3 shot approach, the strategy and thus scoring dispersion tends to shrink. Less drama. It would be like if hole 13 at the masters was longer so Phil just lays up from the pine straw. I dunno, I kind of get it but I also get everyone had to play it the same.

If I had to choose between this hole and Torrey Pine 18th.. I pick TP all day. I like risk/reward scenarios.

I totally hear you on the risk reward side of things. What didn’t make sense to me is that he was complaining about two things - the length and the centre line bunker. He said that he couldn’t get home in two because the hole was too long. He then proceeded to hit driver, the only club that he could hit to actually reach the centre line bunker. When he can’t get home in two, that for a Tour Pro, is a different kind of stupid. Risk and no reward. He might think that the hole is stupid but if the hole is stupid then so is he.

Looks like a great finishing hole. A lot can happen.

It is, you’re right. One thing maybe not covered above is how wise it is to have the 18th hole at any course to be special.

There’s nothing worse than having an easy hole at the last where ordinary internal club matchplay games may be tied after 17 holes.

Or, in pro tournaments, we want to see something out of the ordinary to end a play-off. Otherwise we can see endless holes played such as 9 extra holes played - as in Spain not too long ago. It avoids the crowds moving around too. My view anyway.

As luck would have it... The on-demand "Featured Group" Live-stream coverage for Day3 of the AbuDhabi HSBC = includes Ricky Hatton (i.e. circa ~4hr47m45s timestamp, for Hatton's 18th hole in R3)

fyi. Hatton's playing partner Robert Rock was almost 2-on, for this ~600 yard Par 5 (Driver & then 3-wood). It kinda discounts Hatton's complaints about the hole design?

For what it’s worth. I hate forced layup par 5s too.  And I see them exactly how he said. As 3 par 3 approaches.  Which stinks.  But.  On this hole. It’s only that way with that extreme wind in your face. Which isn’t everytime.

Hatton sounds like someone who doesn't favor his wedge game.
