Evenflow Riptide Hybrid Shaft

Lip1337

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I will order a ZX UT for the upcoming season.

i have no chance to test a few graphite shafts in the ZX.

Soo... I am gaming the original Evenflow Black Wood shafts and used to play a EF Black Hybrid shaft in a 2i (which was great) (but that club is no longer available)

Is the Riptide Shaft comparable to the Black?

Do you have any experiences of that shaft?

Thank you

I have a even flow black in my driver and it works very well for me. I ordered the riptide in a pxg proto hybrid figuring it made sense, and I don’t like it. Same flex. I don’t know what it is about it, but it just doesn’t seem like my driver preferences translate into anything else in my bag.

thank you very much. not what i wanted to hear, but that´s ok

I would say the Riptide is more similar to an Evenflow Blue.

That would make sense, as I don’t get Along with the blue. @Lip1337 a bit more feedback is that I also don’t get along with the white. Black is absolutely the ideal middle ground for me.

Also, I’m happy with the recoil shaft that comes stock in the ZX. It measures a bit softer flex to flex but it feels good.

@bnperrone that's funny... I tested the blue and white, after great success with the black in D and FW.... I HATED the blue and the white so much 😂

seems like we swing it similar... what kind of hybrid/ut shaft do you use now?

may you tell me your Driver data? Swing speed, transition etc.

I just contacted Srixon (I am located in Germany) I have no other option than the Recoil shaft (graphite)

soooooo frustrating, that golf companies have 99% less custom options in Germany, compared to the US

@bnperrone do you like the recoil hybrid shaft?

Riptide had a little more action in the lower mid section for me. It provided a little extra oomph but also had a little bit more spin which translated to me, as a touch more spinny-left misses. Especially in a cross wind. Really tailed off.

EF Black seems to be the sweetspot for me between HZRDUS Black, EF Black and Riptide Black. EF truly is like an even flowing linear feel. Spin stays down but still feels smooth to me.

HZRDUS RDX Black is also a great Hybrid shaft. Closer to EF Black. If that is available, I highly recommend it over original HZRDUS Black hybrid or Riptide.  EF Black and RDX Black are comparable, if EF is cheaper/easier its fine. RDX maybe a hair more stable but not a massive difference IMO.

I do like the recoil that came stock in the ZX 2-iron. It feels a bit more active but I can't say I have ever had it not be stiff enough. Full swings off tee or fairway and some punch shots all work great. If I hit a bad shot with it I feel what I did wrong, rather than a badly fit shaft where I can't tell why something bad happened. I have the F5 in the recoil and I play 6.5 in my Evenflow Black Driver. I also have a different 4-hybrid cut down and cloned to an actual 4-iron playing length, weight, etc. with the Modus 105X and I like that a whole lot. I just had a 19* built up as a clone, and I need to spend a bit more time before I know whether that takes the iron shaft weight too far up the bag. FWIW I'm currently in Modus 105X in my irons, and if I had to do it again I think I should probably have them softstepped. Another really good iron shaft for me is the True Temper Elevate Tour in Stiff. I think the X in that one is more about being above the weight I like than the stiffness. Regardless, I don't care what flex I play if it works.

I can tell you more about what I don't like. The KBS Tour Proto Hybrid is a big thumbs down for me, the Modus GOST shafts all were far stiffer than stated and didn't want to swingweight close to my (pretty normal) needs. I have yet to like anything with a lot of counterbalance (which I read the riptide is). On advice I tried a Ventus velocore blue 9X in a different ZX and it wasn't great, but that 3-iron head is really heavy more like a 4-iron head weight so I think I'm gonna have it tipped down a bit and try again cause I have enough length to spare.  I would like to try an RDX Black for the reasons stated by the person above, but I have yet to do so.

If all you can get is stock then I'd just roll with that. I think there's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised.
