Sunk 75 footer!

A unique experience putting yesterday
Although I didn't shoot well yesterday due to a couple bad holes, I did have a unique experience on the par-5 530 yd. 13th at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, CA.

I hit a 270 yard drive right down the middle, then a 230 yard 3-wood leaving me 30 yards in front of the green on the fairway.

I was on a downslope with a deep bunker in front of a raised green with a close pin-placement. With little green to work with and a downhill lie to a perched green, I ended up leaving my sand wedge shot all the way past the back of the green... perhaps better than being in the deep trap??

This left me with a left-breaking downhill 75-foot putt from the fringe.

I didn't feel any confidence about leaving this putt close for a 2-putt to save par, so I just said to myself, "Okay God, let's see what you can do...". Instead of "trying" to make this putt myself, I kind of let go and let some other part of myself take over...

I lined up the putt, took my putter back and let 'er go... The putt stayed straight for 60 feet or so, then started breaking left towards the hole and slowed perfectly at it approached, then dropped, right in center of the hole - a pretty impressive birdie putt!

The guys I was with couldn't believe it. I followed it up with a triple bogie on 14...

I have had a similar experience where I felt wierd over a shot during putting

sometimes, I go to line up a 10 foot or 15 foot putt, and the line just screams at me as if it is impossible to miss it

I don't see anything else except the middle of the cup

then all i have to do is step up and hit it

this only happens on the good days I might add

Huh????

Anyways...great story Golfslo! Sometimes I feel if you take the "thinking" out of the game and let some basic instincts take over, you can allow yourself to make a better swing or in your case a better stroke on the ball. I think that's been the key to my "turnarounds" on the golf course after a bad front nine. I just say to myself, "Screw it and swing the darn club!' and thngs sort themselves out. My buddy PM Hacker is always yelling at me to just swing the club and screw the overthinking. He's played enough with me that he can see in my swing when I'm overthinking my game. :cheesy:

That is what I call being in the zone, that feeling of letting something take over and you just know you're going to sink it because you can see exactly how the ball is going to roll.
