Players with health conditions

Just stumbled upon this article about playing golf with epilepsy, and learned that Jeff Klauk actually played with epilepsy.

I think this would be a really cool place to raise awareness of different medical conditions, and how your love of golf can still continue.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's stories!

Is hitting high, nasty bombs a medical condition? Asking for a friend 😉

No, but slicing into the trees or hitting into the water must be.

We should give them a break....new to WRX.  How many of us do NOT have some sort of medical condition.....would about eliminate 97% of the members.

I get it.  We all have problems.  It's a bummer thread for a bummer time of year.

I remember last year about this time a guy shared a story about accidentally dropping his Old Angler Tuscan Soul leather bag in a puddle of melting snow that was loaded with melting salts essentially ruining it.  He was very mad - never heard from him after that?

Seems to me the OP was simply trying to get some inspirational stories about people who have either overcome serious medical conditions to play golf or have used golf as a way to cope with such conditions.  Fortunately, I can't provide any such stories, but I'm sure there are many who could.  I'd view them as more uplifting than bummer.

Thanks for the correction...that's the light I should have taken it in.  Right off hand can think of 3 different players that are amputees.  One is a single capper....one of those that you could lay pipe on his shot line.

My apologies to everyone for attempting to humor the spirit behind the intent of the post, but I really enjoyed this episode of Adventures in Golf and it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Although not a medical condition , Sascho McKenzie the golf researcher broke his right arm about 5 years ago . During the period in which the arm was healing , he played golf with just his left arm  and supposedly was able to drive almost 250.
Part  of my practice routine consists of one arm swings . I find ( as a rightie)using just my left arm  is much easier than just using my right arm.

I have a good friend with epilepsy . He is lucky in that his seizures happen only about 4 times / year . Most with epilepsy have seizures that happen much more frequently . No  ONE can play golf while having a grand mal seizure . While I never saw one in person , I have seen videos and they are scary to watch . Luckily for my friend his very infrequent seizures  have had no effect upon his golf and he continues with a + handicap.

My wife has epilepsy and yes it's no joke.  Try this on for size.  I was born with glycogen storage disease, and have had a liver and kidney transplant.  I also have 3 herniated discs in my back and a bad knee.  Not asking anyone to feel sorry for me, so please don't, but my point is that I'm blessed to even alive at this point and enjoy this game.

Exactly this! Definitely wasn't intended as a 'bummer' thread or to be negative, but inspirational.

I’m an epileptic - don’t have a sob story to share sorry. Doesn’t effect my golf at all. Only side effect is that my medication has given me pigmented purpura capillaritis on my lower legs. It looks like eczema and is gradually getting worse. In the sun it lights up bright pink and I’m pretty self conscious about it. It will be cool enough soon to wear pants again - happy days.

But if anyone has experienced this skin condition, treatment advice would be appreciated. It’s similar to something called “golfer’s rash”. I’ve got an appointment with a dermo in a couple of weeks.

It is impossible to verify that number , so your skepticism is well founded.

But that does not detract from the usefulness of one arm drills

They develop strength in your forearms and wrists

I have found that hitting balls with a driver using just my lead arm is much easier than hitting irons  with just my trail arm.
You might want to include one arm drills in your practice routine.

If I shanked one at some innocent, I could never forgive myself. 😆
