Your 10 picks for the 2022 winners?

pmcuk

Recommended Posts

Here's a fun exercise. Name your 10 picks for winners in the rest of the 2022 season.

Mine:

JY Ko

Lydia Ko

Nelly Korda

Danielle Kang

Leona Maguire

Brooke Henderson

Patty Tavatanakit

Pajaree Anannarukarn

Yuka Saso

Sei Young Kim

I've left out Lexi, Inbee, Stacy Lewis, Nasa Hataoka, Hye-Jin Choi, Jessica Korda, Charley Hull and others who could well have been in there. The first few are no-brainers, but after that it gets contentious!

I am not even going to try!

I am always fascinated to see how JYK scrubs up after a period off. Will she or won't she? She usually does.

Also, SYK? I thought she really lost her way in 2021, and have posted my theories on why. So will she come back to the top, or float around off the pace? I'd have to think she will win at least once.

What about Lexi?

So much competition. Always tough.

I'd go with Jin Young, Nelly, Lydia, Brooke, Hye Jin, Atthaya, Lexi, In Gee, Danielle, and 6ix.

My answer.....no.

It's been getting better. Probably no worse than the Epson Tour. In the past few years Matilda, Bronte, Mel, Madelene, Jasmine, and Celine have won. Georgia, Anna, and Sophia also won.

Epson Tour grads Nelly, Ally, Cheyenne, and Hannah have won in their first three years. Celine could easily be considered in both groups.

The KLPGA is in a class of its own. Jin Young, Sei Young, Hyo Joo, 6ix, Miram, Sung Hyun, A Lim and MJ have 23 wins combined in the last three seasons. That doesn't include wins by Inbee, Eun Hee, and Amy.

Fair points.

Consider this season being harder to win than the last few (trying to normalise for covid impact causing less events - not easy) - just my call on that.

Also Leona is an Epson grad who has won in her first three years (oh how quickly people forget - she only won on Saturday).

Is someone like Sagstrom an LET player or an EPSON player? Her first full year as a pro was on EPSON and she graduated to the LPGA. She was a rookie on LET and LPGA the same year, 2017. Angel Yin has probably played more LET than Sagstrom.

Good call, even Anna never really played full time on the LET. Don't forget Matilda had to win an event on the LET, just to gain membership and Solheim availability. To be fair not sure Celine, Madelene, Sophia or Bronte have played full seasons either.

The KLPGA is the TRUE, REAL and ONLY developmental tour of the LPGA.

They should just scrub the Epson Tour and have  the top 50 qualify for LPGA cards from Q-Series.

If a player is that good...they can make their way through qualifying and make the LPGA....nuff said.

Take the money from Epson and sponsor the Int'l Crown...nuff said.

This is easy:

D. Kang

L. Ko

L. Maguire

JY Ko

Will update every few weeks.

100% record👍

However, taking a punt......it will be a Thai player at the Honda.

It won't be Yealimi - yet. Ask me why.

@Rapidcat Dunno how, but when i saw your picks for 2022 winners...

Why? 🤔

@18majors as a big Yealimi fan for comment.

Got to say I think that she is a terrific player and a great asset to the LPGA Tour, she could go on to be a really significant player, so no -ve from me. Lovely personality and still so young so great potential. Near future top 10 player, I can see the possibility. So my comments aren't meant as a criticism, just an observation that may? point to something that needs recalibrating.

I've been mulling over something that she said last season when she was playing well but hadn't converted her good play to a win. Her comment was something like "I'll win soon".

That sent up warning signals to me. Granted, if it was just a frustrated comment then treat it as a one-off, but if that is a mirror on how she is approaching her golf week on week (eg 'I'm expecting to win at some stage because I am so close') it is an error IMO.

If you are Tiger in his pomp you can have that attitude because you know (well enough) that your best will win. No one else though is that good. You can't control what your opponents are doing and they only need to be one stroke better than you no matter how well you play, to beat you, so it is pointless to focus on something you can't control (the win). That could happen time after time and frustration builds, patience erodes.

Every Tour player has enough talent and developed enough skill to get their card, otherwise, they wouldn't be there. After that, it is effort, tournament round decision-making and execution that determines your success every tournament - that's no great insight, it just how it is. Add Incremental improvement (eg working to shore up comparative weaknesses/building on comparative strengths) to get better and now with so much better stats to analyse, it can be done.

I don't have access to her inner sanctum nor follow her as closely as others might so I don't know what her current mental process is, but if she is focussed on her inevitable winning by 'playing at her best' well that might not be the way.

She's a top 50 player currently, now she needs incremental improvement to get higher - and stay there. Focus on the things she can control each round not where she is placed in the field and so maybe try and force something.

She's still such a young player, improvement is almost inevitable.

Focus on the process elements not the end goal. Forget other's expectations for you, set your own realistic expectations, work the incremental improvements and block out the outside 'noise'. Let the win come.

Just some thoughts. I wish her well.
