At times Steve Stricker (Odyssey White Hot) didn't use a Scotty when he was a Titleist staffer. Same as Zach Johnson with his SeeMore.

A few guys are in S300/400s, notably Matsuysma. A few in C-Taper S+ as well but that hardly counts. 😅

He's had that TM putter for so long now. I feel like a rich friend bet him $10,000 that he wouldn't use it on tour, and an additional $100,000 for every year he used it. It's the only reasonable explanation at this point.

Matsuyama in s300? Crazy

 

C taper s+ is pretty common on tour for this line, that is the X flex. C taper X flex is like 7.0 shafts

You'd be surprised how many pros who aren't members on golfwrx use softer iron shafts than us the real pros.

really? I look at the WITB photos all the time and rarely see stiff flex, kind of cool when you do. Luke Donald played s300 for awhile but switched to x100.

 

Rocco Mediate recently did a witb video on his instagram and he is a small older guy. He uses rifle 7.0 mid iron shafts, 130g. He says stiffer is stability and you don't have to be fast to swing it, heavy is control. Not sure that theory applies as much to driver though.

It's definitely not the majority, but in there are quite a few stiff players.  DJ plays soft stepped.  I believe Furyk played 105s in stiff.

Love to see a tour pro playing S flex.  
 

According to tour stats he’s ranked #203 (out of 218) on tour with a clubhead speed 108.59. He’s well within the speed window for X but he must prefer the feel of S.

Well ... Scotty doesn't believe in face balance. Although I'm sure he'll custom whatever these guys want. But Stricker doesn't use face balance, so there is that.

I think Harman is probably playing the lightest/softest driver shaft on tour. Even the other shorter hitters mentioned in this thread, Furyk and Donald play X or TX in their driver/fws IIRC.

Probably prefers the feel, and good enough to get what numbers he needs from those shafts. JT was playing a stiff driver shaft up until he got on tour and got access to more stuff with Titleist. I mind seeing a video where the Titleist club builder said JT preferred the feel but was convinced enough by the Diamana BF TX to switch (at the time)..

I always liked Brian.  He's a good guy and plays with a lot of guts.
I'm in Hilton Head SC and he grew up down the road in Savannah.  I remember seeing him play at Harbour Town when he was young.  He was a "local" golfer so he would get invites to play in the Heritage tournament.  I remember the first time I saw him at the tournament, he had golf shoes on that looked like they were falling apart and his pants were so long they dragged on the ground and were starting to fray on the bottom.  He's come a long way since those days.

Highly doubt you are playing from the very back tee's the pros do with soft stepped regular flex shafts at a 3.4 index. You don't see it very much at all on tour because from the tee's and courses they play, to hit it that far and be competitive you will fit into X flex more than likely.
