I have it in my head that Christy Kerr should captain against Suzanne.

Team USA players need more tour wins. So between now and the Cup, Lizette(major), Kupcho, Noh, Altomare, Harigae need to get it done.

Isn't it kind of an "unofficial" requisite that a team captain be a prior asst. team captain???

Crusty has yet to be an asst. team captain. I hope she never becomes a team captain. Crusty would be so OBNOXIOUS as a team captain, especially if the US should win.

 

Hmmmm...I'm thinking this is a sign Stanford will to overlooked as a future team captain.

 

I believe Stacy will be team captain in 2025, especially if the US wins.

 

I'll guess that Wie will be captain in 2027.

The Pink Diva will have to be an asst, team captain in the future....and if completed, she will eventually be a team captain one day.

Obviously, family obligations will affect the above 2 when they will captain.

The comment that I will make in this post will disturb certain people on here but what the heck, here goes....

 

I am a Stacy Lewis fan.

 

There, I've stated it and I feel fine.

 

Intense, crotchety at times (sometimes amusingly so, at least to me) but with her teenage scoliosis issues, I think she just really wants success and can't understand others that muck around, although different personalities deal with situations in different ways. This to me will be one of her big tests as captain, dealing effectively with the different personalities, I guess using her assistants effectively for this could be important.

 

The donation of her winners check to Hurricane Harvey relief shows her quality as a person IMO

 

After the last two losses, it needs a shake-up, and she will give it that.

 

My advice for her - modify/jettison the pod system, too limiting IMO.

Agree about the drama and it needs to come from the golf quality and contest, not the false rah rah stuff like firing up the the US crowd, they'll be fired up better by the right golf. The US crowd firing up helps the Euros just as much IMO by galvanising and motivating their team.

 

Stacy will give this a red hot effort. I found Pat Hurst very underwhelming, but that's just how she came across to me, she might have been good in other ways I'm not aware of.

I wonder what she means when she says she wants the players to have fun? Seems like Nelly, Jessica and Ally Ewing were having plenty of fun dancing and singing karaoke. Perhaps she means enjoy the competition like many athletes enjoy the Olympics. Some of the antics in Toledo bordered on Buffoonery.

Whilst the US winning on Euro soil won't be an easy task, it should be remembered that the last two cup losses have still been close on points results: 2019 13.5 vs 14.5 and 2021 13 vs 15. The US team can win the next one.

 

As the experienced Solheim Cup captain that I am (not...haha) it's critical to pick decent match players in form, not ok stroke players with deceptive (in regards to reflecting matchplay ability) world rankings. Look at Leona's selection captain's pick as an example, a real matchplayer and one-on-one competitor who was in form (all as acknowledged by Beeny); interestingly she was told quietly of her selection a week before the formal announcement, Beeny was working her plan in her wonderful, understated, calm manner, so perfect for that Euro team.

 

On this basis, Stacy should resist the temptation to pick herself, her Solheim cup record is poor despite her obvious effort.

I love the Solheim cup, so much discussion and trash talking on here and elsewhere in an extended lead up, great fun.

 

Then you have the actual contest, can be enthralling viewing.

 

My favourite golf event I think and I'm neither European or American.

 

It is just so marketable to those with only casual interest in women's golf.

 

Another idea for Stacy - conduct matchplay selection trials incl Fourball and Foursomes - let's see whose committed, she can get a feel as to their matchplay ability and even trial some pairings. They had at least one 'bootcamp' before the last cup didn't they and everyone turned up (I think) so there is a precedent.

 

LPGA should also consider doing their version of the Ryder cup donations to charity on behalf of each player (PGA donates $200k for each player).

I'm trying to recall of an incident(s)...and can't think of any.... where Stacy SNAPPED at a non-Asian or CHIRPED in a negative way against a non-Asian.

 

Maybe others can chime in on some SNAPPY non-Asian incidents.
