I think it’s funny that people are clamoring for a new P760 but if I remember correctly they weren’t all that well liked before and it didn’t sell well. Not sure why maybe someone can refresh my memory. I thought I remember that cycle blending well between the 750, 760, 770. Although they all sort of looked alike?

After looking at current product offerings I can see why they ditched the 760 before. If you’re a player looking for a solid forged CB you’re probably not looking for something clunky. If you want the look of a players club with more distance/forgiveness you will look at the 770. Even as a blade player I think the 770 looks nice. Not sure a product between the 2 is needed and why it died off. Maybe they’ll bring it back.

If you break it down by handicap and average want/look/feel here’s what maybe their thinking is?

0-5 Blades

5-10 Players CB

10-15 770 equivalent

15-20 790 equivalent

20+ Shovel of the year?

I think you misrepresent the MC's here. I'm a 4 index and had them last year. Absolutely beautiful to look at and felt fantastic when hitting out the middle but by god, they were hard work (for me anyway).

I changed up this season to T100S and what a difference.

Don't get me wrong, the MC's are really really good clubs, but you need to be a ball striker to handle them anywhere near their potential. Sadly, I'm not up to that standard.

I agree that this is a generalization and that the MCs are for better ball strikers with irons. I'm a 7 handicap and have played very well with them, but my miss is typically thin & fairly straight. Thus, they are not too penalizing for me besides losing distance. I came from P790s, which were certainly easier to launch. However, my front-to-back dispersion was worse with those because I could catch one and fly the green.

I have hit the 770 and 760 too. I found that the 760 was only marginally more forgiving than the MC, so I think if you're truly looking for noticeable forgiveness or launch with your irons, the P770 may be the better option, even for a 5-10 handicap.

I have a blended set of MC's and MB's and the MB's are way easier to hit I think.   This is the first set that I am playing a blended set and probably will be the last.  When the new MB's come out, I will be ordering a full set.

its more likely because your MC irons are longer irons which are just harder to hit in general vs. shorter irons. If they were blades they would be just as difficult.

Doesn't really matter though, give it a try and see how it works out.

I get what you are saying....i should have expanded.  I had a set of full P730's before this blended set and the long iron of P730's were much easier to hit than these MC's.....unfortunately I sold the P730's.....

yea, I'm definitely not one to say blades are more difficult to hit than cavity backs. How slim soles and toplines are seem to help many with the strike. I know DJ says that cavity backs go too low and not enough spin for him so they are less accurate, he says he hits the ball higher and is more accurate with a blade. Fitters nowadays don't take much of this into account and pretty much never recommend a blade which is unfortunate.

I will say I don't mess with 3,4 iron blades though. I like a little help there but it's been many years since I hit a long iron blade, need to revisit.

There’s so much fan fare for the P760s, but I don’t really get how it’s that much better than a P7MC-770 combo set. I play the MCs and love them, but I can see why someone would want a touch more forgiveness in the mid to long irons with a 770. The only answer I can think of is the desire to have a proper full iron set. Otherwise, I think TaylorMade does offer a solution for those who loved the P760s. That, or save yourself $700 and buy a set of preowned 760s on eBay. 😁

Agree. Higgs plays a full set and some LPGA gals. You'll see 770's in the bag of Tiger's , Morikawa's, Rory, for the long irons... even at address the 770 looks very similar to the MC IMO. Feel and workability of course favors the MC but I don't think the gap is that far at all.

The 760 was popular, the criticism of it was about the waffle iron look it has on the backside. It performs really well.

The newest 770 was a step backward from the og IMO. They took a true forged CB iron that performed great and wrecked the feel of it just to give it the faux muscleback look with the steel wallpaper. I like the 750 and og 770 better than all their current offerings. The og 770 had a tungsten bar low in the long irons. Don’t really feel like I need more tech.

Their lineup lacks a straight up forged iron for solid, above average players. The MC is great, but one level too punishing for many players. Other companies, such as New Level and Sub 70 and Haywood, are now putting out better options for players who want to play golf with forged irons and are not into the hollow heads and stabilizing bars and activated polymer. I would like to see TM come out with a real contender in the forged iron category. All the tech irons don’t appeal to me except perhaps in the long irons. You can get a playable forged iron from Takomo Golf but not from TaylorMade. Same with Callaway — all tech except for their blades. It’s like they all think they must put all tech possible in all heads. It must sell or they wouldn’t do it but I am glad other small operators are picking up the slack.

What a savvy post

Well said and I 100% agree

crave a '760' iron from TM

in t100 until such time......

id go for a p730 with the tungsten insert, much like the P7TW, but without the P7TW price HAHA. loved my p730s but the lack of feeling the toe at times f***** my game up over the past two years, especially since i dont care to be a 6 days a week range rat anymore (mainly due to the range options close by having s*** range balls) and thus its impossible to stay up on blades. ive settled into the cally apex pros and its been a nice change, but i still miss the blade feel some....it took all summer to adjust as well in distance differences (had same exact lofts, but that tungsten was just helping to launch the ball compared to the blades).... i tried the p7mc/mb and just couldnt hit em well...i need that toe feel so i can work the ball and theres just not a lot of options out there.

Would the TM line be blended almost perfectly IF:

-The 2023 P770's use the newer speedfoam to allow more perimeter weighting
-Slightly smaller profile
-Thru slot speed pocket and speedfoam 3-7
-Forged 8-AW

-P7MC generally stays the same as last iteration

??

Good thoughts on the next iteration. I think the speed foam air is a lock. From a profile standpoint, they could certainly reduce top line but to keep the 770 name presumably means keeping the 77mm blade length that inspires it.

As far as the combo foam/no foam, I think that would be a good option and essentially offer the same thing as P760. I’m just not sure how that would fit their target market for P770. As in, would the forged 8-PW provide the forgiveness that these players desire. Per a previous point, other brands are doing this successfully, so TaylorMade should be able to as well if they choose.

It will be interesting to see and we may find out in the next couple months!

I like that idea. I think Nike's last pro combo set was that way - solid forged 8-P and then 7 down had an insert. I like the blade length on my 770s, but the topline and hollow feel is not my favorite, mainly in the short irons.

Interesting, so likely just a P770 speedfoam air update in the coming weeks?

I would think they would be on the same timeline so together.

I went in last week for a full fitting with TM at the HQ and they confirmed new irons but not until 2023. Don’t know if they were just saying that or was legit, seemed like he was being pretty honest.

I had previously intended to opt for the P770s when they came out but now that they are delayed, I will also consider the Apex 23 which could be out first!

So I ended up ordering the 770’s and I was told delay is mainly with the KBS shafts and together it was going to be 4 weeks only. So I should have it by end of September?

I already received my driver, 3W, 5W, hybrid, hi-toe 3 wedges and the putter in less than 10 days. So I’m thinking they will stick to their timeline.

I HOPE the New MC is more like a re-vamped 760 in disguise

I think there is such a huge gap to the 770 right now, that should be a key goal of this release

Looking forward to details

all intel appreciated

I agree that there is a huge gap between P7MC and 770. Unfortunately, it sounds like that gap is going to get even wider. Supposedly, the new 770 is even hotter than the current 770 with "speed foam air" increasing ball speed. The issue is that it is already tough to combo the sets with MC and get the gapping right.

I'm about a scratch and I find the current MC somewhat unforgiving after about the 6 iron.

I think TM is missing it with this one, but hopefully they can prove me wrong when I get a chance to put them in the bag.
