Taylormade 2022 mb/mc replacement?

That’s a pity on the 770, had hoped they would make them have less pop, not add more. I loved them but moved away due to getting ‘too much’ from the 7 and 8 iron to rely on them. Couldn’t blend them with MC easily either because of that.  Pity as the 790 4 iron and even 5 iron are very usable and they will blend in really well with 770 now.

So we got our fitting heads in today and I did some extensive testing. Here was my first impression:

1. The MB looks and feels better than the previous model (subjective I know). To me it goes through the turf a little cleaner as well. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall ease of use and performance of the MB and I think I will be putting these in the bag (7-P).

2. The P770 definitely has a softer feel than it's predecessor. I would describe it as more "dense" less "clicky". For me, ball speed was slightly faster and spin a little lower than the previous 770. Not sure this is a good thing as it will make it difficult to combo with the MC. Aesthetically, they will blend perfectly with the P790 as they now both have the satin and chrome look. Bag appeal will be very high with these and they are rocket launchers.

3. No major performance differences with the MC (that I could tell), but subtle changes in appearance make them look better to my eye at address. They already had a winner so ......  if it ain't broke. The satin finish looks great and the lines look a little softer. Clean top line..... not too thick. These seem like they will combo with the MB seamlessly.

4. It sure would be nice to have a something in between the P7MC and the P770

What you putting in for 4-6i?

The lineup they should have is an MB, the MC, something like the old 770, then something like the current 770, then the current 790. TM probably thinks its too much with the SGIs as well.

couldn’t get fit for them for the same reason. Lots of “how far has that went?!”

disappointing but I’ll stick with the Mc/mb combo probably

I'll probably go 4-6 in the MC and 7-P in the MB. Might try the 2 or 3 iron in the 770 as well, but I still have the Sim udi 3 iron that I like so it will be tough to knock that one out of the bag.

Is the 770 coming with a 2 iron this release?

#4 is the key comment.....a real miss by TM I think

oh well - plenty of other irons

I will wait for them to cave and bring back the 760....

Are the "LITE" heads new?  I'm a 6'4" player and would love for more companies to start offering B weight heads like Mizuno.  To my knowledge TM has never done this.

TM uses the same heads for all builds.  However, they use hosel weights to provide for the proper SW depending upon length.  So, you can get standard SW with an overlength club.

These are fitting heads only and may be built without these weights due to the shaft adapter fitting into the hosel....they are not standard build heads.

What is the need for a hollow body 8-AW?

Think perimeter weighting and for offcenter strikes it can be helpful compared to a blade in those irons.

Just wondering if someone who SHOULD be playing p770s needs more than a cavity back in short irons?

I think a lot of people would fit this. I like my 770s from 6 or 7 iron down, but I wish they weren’t hollow heads in the short irons. And I think the jump between the two sets is fairly large, enough that they don’t “blend” super easy.

I'm slowly getting to my point but it's pretty obvious we're not getting p760 refresh. I'm thinking would it make sense for them to offer a P770CB in only 7 or 8-AW.  For someone to combo with the P770

This is why I want the MB, CB, bigger CB, hollow body, bigger hollow body lineup. I personally don’t think built in combo sets should exist. Leave it up to the customer to combo it up. My 2¢ anyway.

Forget all this combo stuff....get the 770 or MC and if needed go with the 790 in the long end.

Unfortunately unlike other OEMs, they don't include a set gap wedge with their MC offerings.  Despite even tour players showing greater consistency with set wedges over specialty wedges.  ie TCB/i230

I'm sure you would do just fine with a MG3 wedge for that spot.

Hosel weights?  You mean tip weights?

That achieves virtually nothing for overlength players.  Tip weights are mostly used to bring head variances in line with one another to make a set match.  Heads made my companies that offer one weight generally start too heavy to accommodate a "stock swing weight" for anything starting at +.5".

No...hosel weights.  They are callled bullet weights and TM uses them in all irons.  These fitting heads do not have those as the adapter must fit into the hosel and they do not use these heads for builds.
