It’s actually to make the head sit more open when resting on the sole. Mav McNealy had a similar mod made to his driver.

If I remember correctly that was a custom build and then custom bend to get to toe hang the way he wanted it. First time I’ve noticed but he’s also had it drilled to add weight to the toe and to the heel of the putter. Oh to be a tour player! 😎

I have one of. His back up putters with the same. Set up. It actually is face balanced. No toe hang at all
