Rapsodo missed best swing

Recommended Posts

I've been using the Rapsodo launch monitor for while now, had the premium setup for feedback as part of being a NEW user. The strange thing is it misses my best swing, I've hit one out of the park yeah but no feedback. You know what I mean, ball came off the middle of the face and I had the most perfect feeling of smooth tempo with effortless power. It was amazing but no measurement of anything, no distance launch angle or swing speed !!!! Felt cheated, and it's happening every time I swing great. Why ??

Anyone else experienced this anomaly?

I swear I shoot 68 every time I play without you guys but for some reason I can't break 82 when we go out together.  You must be bad luck.

All kidding aside, that sounds very frustrating if it's happening consistently.  Need to see the good ones to know what is wrong with the bad ones.  I'll actually be following this pretty closely because I've had the Rapsodo in a cart at least half a dozen times and never pulled the trigger and if this is a problem for others as well I'll save my money.

Complete noob here, but don't these things have a yardage limit? And if that's not possible, that you're outhitting that range, then maybe you're tripping off the logic it has on what counts as a strike and what it ignores as noise.

To the commenter above, I recently pulled the trigger on the SC200 plus with the youtuber discount link figuring that when all of these personal launch monitors have glitches like this, might as well not pay too much for them and calibrate expectations. I plan on using mine just to get ballpark information to inform my practice.

Econ - X price for Y utility. If I spent more than I did for the discounted unit, I would be expecting better and better performance...

Yeah I can say I'm not #### happy, but it's really since the introduction premium software ran out that it's happening. And it is the comparison of the good bad and ugly swings I need to know about, hoping I can learn from all that...

I don't believe there is a limit, yesterday I had 2 net sessions and my best shot was 201 metres carry club speed 91 miles p/h and smash factor 1.50 with launch angle 14.8 and launch direction-4.1

As comparison next shot, 194 meters carry club speed 97 miles p/h smash factor 1.40 and launch angle 11.9 and l/d -4.1 I'm happy with my progress thus far.. wonder what the numbers are for the missed shots hmmmm..

Appreciate your input guys...

I've never had this problem with my Rapsodo, I would check the set-up of the device, i.e. make sure it's aligned correctly and the proper distance away from you. My Rapsodo will occasionally miss terrible shots (like off-the-planet type misses), but my success rate on well-struck shots is very close to 100%. I would definitely make sure that you are following all of the set-up guidelines (flat surface, correct distance behind you, etc). If you're still having problems I would probably reach out to them as see if they have any input, as I have definitely not seen similar results with mine.

Yeah the setup is what I'm thinking, the reason I got Rapsodo was to use as my eyes because I can't see with a cataract. Although it seems I've lost my rare right missed shot they go left or straight, not missed right for weeks now and as I'm only in the nets hoping it's transferable to the course. I'm working on swinging faster trying to recover some swing speed lost from illness, I think by the time my eye is fixed my swing will be alot better..

Are you inside or outside and what clubs? I've found on some occasions the MLM misses swings inside, particularly with high loft clubs. I've never had an issue outside.

The numbers I quoted above are from my Taylormade SIM 9" driver, I don't have many issues with the short irons 6-lob wedge. I like going for difficult shots (draw fade distance) into a green but at 71 it's more likely I miss but I don't care I have a handicap lol, my miss is straight left with long clubs but not much with the short irons because I'm not looking for maximum distance like the driver.

All,

I have a Rapsodo and have worked out a couple of environment factors that means some shots are not captured.

So you hit the shot, light is blue (tracking)... Shot lands and it turns the light green again. its frustrating !! I started to play around with this and worked out there are always consistently two environment issues that can cause this.

1) - Poor light. Im in the UK so over the winter months i'm in the range. In a well lit driving range, the shots are tracked correctly. Maybe it missed 3-4 per 75 balls which is acceptable. I took it to two different ranges which are older and not so well lit and it has more like a 40% missed shot ratio. Took it back to the new well lit range and it works perfectly.

2) - When in a driving range bay, if you have small bays with lots of metal bars, this caused it to stop tracking more often than not. If I take it to a bay where the width is a lot wider, I dont see the issues of missed shots. I tried this at two separate ranges on the same night with two width bays at each and the wider bays are always more consistent when tracking the ball.

On a side note, I have used this alongside the Top tracer. I was honestly amazed and very happy to see that the Rapsodo was only 1-3 mph out for ball speed compared to Top tracer for the same shot. For distance, again really good results as it was between 2 - 8 yards different. Now thats not bad for a £350 device you can stick in the bag and use anywhere at any range.

Hope this helps

Regards

And invariably I've just hit a great shot, well it felt good. I found the differences about the same but sometimes slower and sometimes faster, so consistent differences I didn't find.
