Most likely due to its size, but they’re no bigger to me than the Srixons. I’ve got a 3 and 4 in the DHY and really like them. I demoed pretty much everything in this category and used a Ping until I tried the DHY on a whim.

I wouldn't mind the size but the face just seems too shallow, same reason I don't like the UDI

With Scottie kicking serious butt and Tiger being back. I am wondering if there will be a run on these irons?

Really going to be interesting to see if he moves out of the Srixon clubs, he seems to love them and TM doesn't really have much in that area, closest is maybe p790 but completely different feel.

Did you notice it was the srixon ZU 85 that he hit out of trouble after drop on 18 yesterday. May have further cemented its place in the bag.

Caddy carry a TM will get way more airtime and 99% golf viewers on TV will have no clue what clubs he’s using, so they will assume it will be TM

The Stealth driver in the bag was a recent change that without him under contract could be out of the bag next week

It’s a great deal for TM cuz before they couldn’t use his name in any ads when he won and now they can

I am fascinated and also can't understand the ROI with these types of deals. Yes a TM bag can have any clubs in it and people at the tournament see that and might associate their next purchase to what brand they saw on TV, but I almost never notice the bag or its colors on the broadcast, in fact the only reason I associate bags with players is because the pics on this site.  Putters are a different story.

does anyone buy Monster because of TIGER?

I carried for a lot of players who negotiated their contract for "bag, head covers, and high vis clubs."  Manufacturers primarily want driver and bag/head covers because the general public can't tell the difference between irons on TV.  Putters are high visibility, but prying a working putter out of the hands of a pro is next to impossible.  They are more superstitious about their putters and grips than anything else, except for maybe a trusty fairway wood that they've used forever.

I'm always curious about grips and what guys do with them. Anything interesting bits to share on that front e.g. size/orientation/wraps etc?

Taylormade has th be pretty happy with how the Masters ended. Taylormade 1,2,3. Stealth in all the bags. Rory with the longest average and hitting tons of fairways..

Nothing really interesting.  Most have a feel they like and if it's not there, it messes with their heads.  A lot of them have quirks about wiping the grip wet just before you hand the club to them.  Others have some funky taping specs (look at Bubba's wrap specs some time.)  I believe Patrick Reed is still using a Ping pistol putter grip on his driver as an example.

The women were less picky about the minutia but were more prone to complain about too dry or too wet grips.  Probably due to smaller hands, their grips are usually standard to undersized.  Male players tend to like the feel very specific hand to hand.

Haven't seen anyone use a foreign substance to keep them tacky since the mid 80's (there may be a rule against it now).  I started caddying in the leather wrap era.  I miss those days.  Flick the cig, grab a stick, pick a target, and whack it.  Then walk a couple hundred yards and do it again.

As a training aid or? I'm pretty sure that is illegal otherwise, hah.

Thanks for the other info though, definitely familiar with Bubba's giant grips, and I actually like that his driver is one more wrap (12/10) over every other club (11/9). I too found myself wanting my driver grip fractionally larger than everything else, felt more appropriate given the head size and what my brain says is "right".

1 - I refuse to believe Scottie's swing is good enough to use those irons.

2 - Why are there 14+ clubs in every one of these? Are they making a decision right before the tourney on which 14 they want to bring?

It's completely irrational how much his swing bothers me because it's obviously good, even if his putting is the real star of the show. The golf world just deserves a better looking swing for its #1 player!

Call me crazy, but I think it benefits golfers to see a “non-traditional” swing at the top. We have seen plenty of good swings fall off the map, but Scotty is very much a play your game kind of guy. I think it’s great for golf fans.

Also interesting that he is rocking those old school Srixon utilities. The new zx utility is so much better. But it is obvious he is slow to change and sticks with what works.

Old School?.... Aren't they only one generation old?

Yeah, simply saying he didnt switch to the new new.. The ZX are much cleaner looking I think. The rear end does not stick out and the shape is more refined. But he didnt switch.

Anyone know the headweight on his putter? I read it is longer at 36.25".

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
