TaylorMade Making a Push in Junior Equipment

Going to the TaylorMade Golf website, there are now custom options for Juniors.  Haven’t ordered any junior clubs from TM to see what the differences would be in weight for these junior clubs would be (my youngest is 13-1/2 and uses adult clubs now).

I did the same thing just not in that short of time frame bought my son a new putter cut it down regripped it 24 hours before Drive Chip and Putt.

A couple things I have discovered (that many of you have already pointed out) since the announcement of TM joining the "Junior spec" offerings. These are 100% targeted towards the "older" kids in that 11+ age range. Not to say a 8-10 year old couldnt be successful with them, but I have my doubts about being able to comfortably handle the weight of these at anything under 11 (and maybe even 12+). The woods / irons / wedges are all simply adult OEM heads with "junior spec" shaft offerings (again just weak flex (L / A) OEM shafts slightly cut down...there is essentially nothing proprietary to junior spec in this new offering.

My daughter is 10 (11 in June) and has been in the TS3 USKG clubs for around a year and a half. Shes outgrown these and we are just waiting on some downtime this fall / winter to upgrade. Earlier this summer we went ahead and moved to a Stealth with a flynn shaft and it was a great move. I was initially set on the PRODIG-s but would like to at least give the Stealth or P790s a chance...but no fitters have gotten the "jr spec" shafts in yet. TM offers the irons with the recoil shafts on their site which are very close to the specs of the FLYNN irons shafts, and with the -1" available for the TM irons the lenghts are very close to what the next set of USKG irons would be....again I just worry about weight compared to the TS3s or Prodig-s and the strong lofts. Id like to move into the TM stuff as we have an account with TM and could get them at a nearly equal price to PING...but im going to refrain from jumping on the TMs until we can try them. My daughter has a close friend who is playing TM SIM 2 irons with Flynn shafts and does very well with them, he plays at the elite level, but he is definitely stronger than my daughter at the same age.

Even if we could just go with the TM irons and PING 3w/hybrid and wedges i would be happy with that. Ever since she got her Stealth and saw that TM is offering the junior spec irons / woods / wedges she is hell bent on getting a full TM bag, but realizes that they may just be too heavy for her at this age, time will tell. If we ever manage to find a fitter around us with the junior shafts we will report back.

My local Golf Galaxy has the TaylorMade junior wood shafts on the fitting cart - Air Speeder 45 and Aldila Ascent. Nothing for the irons though.
