Searching for custom club builder

Recommended Posts

I was fitted at CC recently. I was priced at $600 for a Srixon ZX Utility 2-iron with a KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid 95 gram extra stiff shaft and MCC +4 midsize grip. Ridiculous.

Does anyone have a good builder they can recommend?

Well, you've got $219 for the iron, unless he can find a head only, $200 for the shaft, $12 for the grip, say $10 for ferrule and supplies. That's $431 for the materials, so he wants $159 for the build. I'd say that's $100 too much.

Not sure the difference between the KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid and Tour Graphite Iron shafts, but you can get the ZXU with the latter in 95g or 100g and MCC grip at ~$250 at a few online retailers including PGASS and Carls... no Puring needed. The TGI shaft is supposed to have a similar profile as their standard Tour iron and is only in XStiff.

Not sure how they could've got the build to $600 on this club.

Now that I think about it, just go order this with the TGI shaft from PGASS and save the time and money.

I'm willing to bet the the TGH and TGI are exact same specs, TGH is just a hybrid hosel size (.370) and the TGI is an iron hosel size (0.355). The ZXU is built with a .355 hosel for iron shafts. (unlike say the Titleist T200 Utility build which has a .370 hosel to support hybrid shafts, unique from the standard T200 iron club)

CC either didn't have the .355 TGI available for you to test, or... well... never mind.

For what it's worth, I have same build (ZXU 2 iron TGI 100) and love it

I'm a fan of Fairway Jockey - good customer service and as quick as suppliers let them be. Just priced yours out on there and it came out to $435. Tax and shipping, might be around ~$450 out the door.

It's how they source their equipment. You're paying retail for all the components.  If you built it yourself, your savings would be in what they charge for labor, $159.   If you're a resorceful person, you can certainly find everything for less than retail, especially if you look on the used market, but that's not their business model.

Just order it direct from Srixon…. They offer that shaft for a $120 up charge and the grip is a $10 up charge. So $450 total.

No, I know from personal experience how they do things, but I'm still surprised that it would have been even that much of a markup. Would be curious to see the line items on that build proposal.

They appear to offer the TGH for the hybrid club but not the utility due to hosel diameter difference between the two clubs. Srixon classifies the utility as an 'iron' because of the hosel diameter. Good news is the 0.355 TGI is only $25 upcharge. Srixon.com doesn't currently offer it (likely due to stock) but PGASS does.

Other option would be the custom build with the hybrid shaft through Fairway Jockey or Will Peoples as mentioned above.

I guess I just find it amusing that people on here continually complain (or whatever you want to call it) about their pricing model, when it's fairly well known at least around here.  It's almost as if people think if they post enough about it, they'll completely revamp their business model that's been fairly succesful.  I certainly wouldn't ever buy from them, but I don't fault their model what so ever.

Wonder about purchase from a single fitting.  You probably have a handle on it but if not it would be good to work with some one local to you for a bit.  folks here know a lot let them know what part of the world you're in and see if someone is close.

What was the fitting charge? I see witb in your signature, make up is what you can buy directly from OEM. What made you decide to use Club Champion for the 2i, just curious? Welcome to GolfWRX. Let us know where you are located in a post (or add to your profile if you are ok with it), it might drum up a club builder close to you. Good luck.
