Anyone still playing irons model year 2yrs or older?

I just felt compelled after a demo session today with some of the new offerings, to see who out there is still playing irons that are by model year 2yrs old or older. The irons themselves do not have to be that old but just the year they were released. If you are let us know what brand, model, and why you are still gaming them.

As you can see from my signature, I am still playing Titleist 735cms. These were released by Titliest in 2005. I just cannot find a set that works better for me and that I am more consistent with. Besides, I love these irons and I am not looking to replace them. It would take a set of sticks that would absolutely blow these away in overall performance and feel to make me switch. Minimal gains would not interest me, and I am not just talking about distance. Don't get me wrong, I have played with TM, Ping, Srixon, Nike, Hogan, Callaway, and Mizuno and I always find something I do not like about them, or they just don't perform for me like the 735s. So I say, don't try and fix something if it is not broke. I need to get a new back up set of 735s before they dry up in the market.

playing taylormade 05 rac forged tp's. been playing them over a year now. i'm still using these because i haven't seen anything offered these days that fits my eye as nicely as these do. i'd like to be playing some mizuno's for the softer feel...maybe 57's or 60's, but in my opinion, there's nothing particular that will motivate me about the mizuno's enough to make me switch. i'm happy with my irons right now...

Play nike pro combo tour forged, some of the best looking irons around IMO

You don't need the latest and greatest to play golf. The OEM's would like you to think otherwise, however.

I just now got new clubs this Jan. Before that, I have been playing Titleist DCI Gold + OS all the back from '95-'96 I think...It's been a long time. I have always been happy with my iron game.....and usually shoot around 78-85( REALLY depends on my short game )...now I got ALL new clubs and shoot exactly the same!! There is no comparison on the feel of my new clubs. They are a lot better, smoother, lighter, and a little bit longer. Probably when I get used to hitting them, I'll get my scores a bit lower.

 

I would still be playing my Titleist DCI's, Taylormade Burner Bubble ( original and still crushing it ) and Taylormade System 2's if my new wife hadn't bought me a whole new bag for a wedding present.

 

My clubs were 11-12 yrs old. Im sure that 2 year old clubs should have absolutely no performance difference in your game, unless you can't stand them or were not fitted correctly.

I play a set of titleist 990's that I have had for several years. I have tried out others, but just prefer these. However at the end of the season I bought a set of 695 mbs, so I will give those a try next year to see if they can kick my 990's out of the bag.

My gamers for the last 3 years have been Hogan Apex blades circa 2000-2002. I have others but they are MUCH OLDER.

Couldn't find anything that I liked better until recently.

 

Just played first round with set of Srixon I-506's (2005) that will probably take the spot in the bag.

 

I will never get rid of the Hogans, they will be my back ups.

mizuno t-zoid pros.

 

released in '96, i got mine in the spring of '97. i've been playing them since then. i got them set up the way i like, and i've really had no interest in anything else. of course, the face is worn off the 7-9 irons really badly by now, but they still perform like a dream. i'll replace them in the near future, but i'll be lucky to find something that works as well and as long as these.

I've been playing Ping G2s for 3 years, which have got me from 19 to 7.6 so far and still improving.

 

I don't believe iron technology has changed or improved a great deal over the years, apart from super game improvement irons/hybrid irons, and even these now are reaching their saturation level.

 

I think it takes about a year to get grooved into a set clubs. I think alot of people chop and change too readily. Although it is nice to have a gleaming new set in the bag which keeps the OEM accountants happy.

Still playing the MP-30s in my sig, love the forged feel and can hit every shot I need to with them. I haven't found another iron that allows me to vary the trajectory and shape so much while still providing some forgiveness. The new Mp-57s have really peaked my interest though :)

2005 Tommy Armour Silver Scots MB's starting last fall and Palmer "The Standard" blades for 20 some years before that (still my back ups). Palmers are going to get the restoration treatment (rechroming and regrooving) this year and will probably be my main clubs with some updated shafts once again.
