Hello all

I'm still playing Mizuno MP-14 irons and I really don't see a need to fix what's not broken. The technology in forged blades haven't changed in decades and I don't see reason to differentiate from a good thing. My backup irons are also aged (Titleist 990-Bs and Callaway X-14 Pro Series). Game improvement club technology has definitely come a long way but the technology engineered into the modern day players clubs is timeless and has really not changed in decades.

Thanks

Loren

I love golf

HA! I have the vast majority, if not all of you, beat. Ben Hogan Edge circa 1988-1992. I was playing a horrible set of hand me down Callaway Knock Off's and saw this set on craigslist for 75$ which included irons, wedges, driver, staff bag, hard travel case and a few sleeves of Pro V1's. The grooves were in immaculate condition cause the guy said his grandfather played like once a year. They hit very solid (I have never heard a bad thing about Ben Hogan irons) and I love em!

Here's one more playing MP-14s. I got to see them made right in front of me on a tour van at a Hogan/Nike/Nationwide stop. The closest I'll ever get to the "Pro treatment!"

I have the standard (weak now days) lofts. I might be in the minority, but it is a whole lot easier to vary trajectory with weak lofts than strong ones. I can hit low ones all day if I need to. But once I start jacking those lofts, it sure gets hard to hit a moon ball when you need to. When you play out of the rough, from behind trees, etc. as much as I do currently, you can't get those bigger clubheads thru the hay! And until I straighten out the Big Dog, I have to be able to bend one, or hit one low under a tree branch all the time. My standard flight is straight/draw. If I am having a bad day, it's hook/Teal/Mallard. If I use anything with a lot of offset, those bad days turn into Teal/Mallard/OB Left!

But I am working hard this offseason. So hopefully the driver will be better in the spring. If not it will be another year of 3 woods and 3 irons from the tee.

Hope springs eternal!

Nickent 3dx reds.

They're easy to hit. They go high, straight, and long. What's not to like?

I've wasted a ton of money chasing the latest and greatest, only to find out that it wasn't. I have a bag of clubs now that work for me. I think I've broken the "new club addiction". I've slowly become less and less interested in buying new clubs for no good reason.

Not so quick! I have a set of 1974 Director's in rotation and am about to add a set of 1957 MacGregor M75 Colokroms! Have also played 1964 Hogan PT III's in the last year or so, shot mid 80's that day, really good day, old clubs and a swing that was working for me (at least on that day, ha ha.)

I have been using my dads Titleist 990s for almost a year. I have no idea how old they are, but I am pretty sure its well over two years lol. Hopefully soon I will get a new set custom fitted. Honestly I am not sure whether I would like to get a three wood or 4-P irons. What would you guys suggest. Logically you would hit irons more, but I dunno where to start.

LMAO, not bad for a squid, thanks for serving! I spent 8 yrs in the Green Machine. I have a couple of sets of the Edges and a couple sets of '88 Redlines (one un-hit) so I know what you are talking about. some of the best sticks ever made. I have over twenty sets of irons now and the newest is a set of Titleist 704.cb's and the oldest is a set of H&B's probably dating to the mid to late '30's. Have fun hitting the Edges they are some really sweet clubs.

I still play a set of Hogan Apex FTX that I bought in new condition 2 years ago for $99. And they were already shafted w/ X100 and bent to my specs perfectly. I'm of the opinion there isn't much technology can improve on over any good set of blades from the past 10 even 20 years. I'd rather pick up a nice used or NOS set and customize them then drop 1-2K on the current year setup. This year I'm putting together a set of gunmetal pro-c or cm macgregors with the KBS gunmetal.
