Anyone still playing irons model year 2yrs or older?

picked these up about three years ago when I decided to get serious about this game they have seen me from an 18 hndcp to now i'm a 5. They are awesome but will be replaced only because I want a little smaller head and a lower ball flight. No worries though, I will donate them to our clubs first tee program and they will serve a younger player as well as they have served me. (A little off topic) There are a lot of witb on this site with some great collections and there is nothing wrong with that, I enjoy looking. But if you're old sticks are not in great condition and you're not a collector. basically if they are just gonna sit in the garage and gather dust, call up you're local first tee and donate them. There are some great kids out there that will be very thankfull. If you must, ask and they will give you a tax write off worth much more than trade in value. Just a thought

Titleist 762's that I've had since 2002 and were replaced in the Titleist line up in 2003. For me, they have the right amount of forgiveness, little offset and a great sole configuration.

They were stock until last year when swing changes meant a stepped improvement came from a re-shaft with Project X shafts from the TT S300's.

I re-grip once a year but other than that I still can't see a time when I'll give these irons up. A range session a week and a average of 25 rounds a year and they still look great. Sure they have nicks and a few gouges from hitting stones but I'm not giving them up.

When I find a set of irons that really work for me, I tend to stick with them long after the "technology" has passed them by. I played Tommy Armour 845s for 12 years! The best irons I have ever played, period. Last year, I switched to Hogan Apex Edge which I like very much. We'll see if they can stay in the bag for 12 years. Needless to say, I don't shop for irons very much.

If you find a set that works for you, stick with them.

I use 4 different sets of irons, 3 are over 2 years old:

2003 TourStage Z101s

MacGregor PCB Tours (early 2000s)

1985 Ping Eye 2s

2008 Srixon i-701s

Love them all! I'm not sure irons have changed all that much except for SGI irons in the last 10 years. Shafts on the other hand definitely have changed and improved a lot!

I missed out on some Mizuno MP-60 (Japanese Tour Issue) 3-PW (Heads Only) RAW, awhile back. That got me thinking...maybe I'll get my Srixon's stripped down? I figured this should soften their feel also, to some extent. Sent them to Jim, at the Iron Factory. I should have them back this upcoming week. I'm thinking of just giving them the Coke treatment...seeing as how my wedges turned out pretty cool. Possibly even a Gun Blue finish?? I don't know yet. Hence, my "Bag of Rust". I'm going to do a new WITB when I get them back, and all shafted up again. They should look pretty neat, and a little different to what most are gaming. I personally don't think Irons can be improved on much more. The SHAFT is the KEY...anyway!! I figured I'd just "customize" my current gamers. No point searching any further than your own backyard...sometimes.

Love my Titleist 804.os irons. I think they came out in 03, but I got them used (only a few rounds) off ebay in early 07. Great forged feel. Great combination of forgiveness and feedback, and have helped me improve. Great irons that I havn't even had the slightest thought about replacing. Should be in my bag until they wear out (hopefully MANY yrs. down the road).

Well,

I am not nearly as good as you guys are, but the clubs I have used in the last several years are:

Armour 845's until 1996 (?)

Titleist DCI Oversized from 1996-2002 (3-LW, Though I still use the 60* wedge I got with the set).

Titleist 822OS from Jan. 2003 until now (5-SW)

Being that I am an old man now and my wedges are almost w/o grooves on them I just got some TM r7draws with RE*AX 55 graphite shafts, a new Callaway Forged 56* and GC14 60* LW .

I know it will be a big change, I hope I am making a smart one. I will know by June, if it will stop snowing.

MP33's from 1999. Best irons for me. Simply a classic. Great feel, good playability, forgiving, great looks. I need to get a backup set.

Since then I have owned:

962s...could not sell these fast enough,

Eye 2 becu...now sold,

Eye 3...now sold,

Srixon 302...now sold,

Bridgestone 33combos...now sold,

TM 300...now sold.

I have also tried:

Tourstage 101...not bad, but no thank you,

TM Racs...no,

I5s...no.

I'm sure there are others I've forgotten.

I hit the mp 60's last year. The rep was trying to tell me these were designed for the "new balls" where the 33 were designed back when balata was still king. I don't buy it.

If anyone knows of a good place to send irons for rechroming, I would love to hear about it.

Hey, that pretty much describes my whole bag!!!! I've been playing this set of MP-19s ('99 model) since '02. Of course, I replaced the DG shafts with Rifles right away. I love 'em, obviously. Mizuno released the MP-19 model for three years in the late '90's. It is the only "lefty-only" model of forged iron that I'm aware of, other than the PM731's from Titleist.

I'm with you.

I've had a set of 735s for 2 1/2 years and think there the best set of irons Titleist has made. They are much softer than the others that I have tried like the 690s, 695s and the new Zs. I hit them yesterday and they feel very hard. I did try the AP2s and they feel soft, much like the feel of the 735s.

What my the 60's designed for the new balls? And the 33 for the balls of before?

Seems to me that is backwards.

Cleveland TA5's- on and off since 2000, currently on my 3rd set. Hopefully I won't make the mistake of trading/selling them for a 3rd time! They are just so forgiving, yet not terribly shovel-like. The 3-iron is so easy to hit off the tee, 215 down the middle 90% of the time. Why I don't hit that darn thing on every hole...
