MP-14s since 2000. Wore them out pretty good though, so I'm getting fitted for the new Mac Pro-Ms (or Cs) Sunday morning...can't wait!! It's going to be hard to give up the sweet feeling of the MP14s though...

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been playing tommy armour 845m's since they came out. I believe this will be my 5th season, but its been so long I may be wrong about that. Although I used to be an iron ho as well, I havent (until late last year) found anything (blade or CBs) that matched these irons in distance, workability, forgiveness (for my swing) or feel. As soon as I put these in the bag the balloned hooks that plagued me almost completely disappeared. Any other iron I tried were shorter, ballooned and hooked in comparison. I even picked up a 1-iron a couple years ago and love that off the tee.

That being said, late last year I ran into a couple sets that, at least in the 5-PW, were comparable. The titleist 755 is a great iron IMO, and the Bridgestone J33 interested me as well. When the J36's make it to Michigan I'm going to try those out.

I'm in an intensive first year learning program and have tried a bunch of different modern irons. Currently I'm using a set of Titleist circa 1985 Tour Model musclebacks (found with little use) x100s spined and frequency blueprinted and I actually like them. I figured that it should make it easier to move on later and I believe it's going to work.

Strictly speaking the answer is 'no' - since my irons are only about 9 months old.

They are the same irons as the last set I played since 2002 though, and the design has remained unchanged, so I suppose I can claim 'yes' in terms of the clubs. Plus, my 3 iron's from the original set...

Excellent irons. Nice shape and sit nicely behind the ball. A quality forging, with a soft feel, and a plain design with no plasic frippery or lurid colours; and proper lofts as standard.

Amongst the best clubs I've ever hit, and I've hit a few in my time. :man_in_love:

Nike Ignite 410 10.5° Grafalloy Blue X

Nike T60 15° Fujikura Speeder 757 X

Titleist 913F 19° Mitsubishi Diamana BB 83X or Titleist 712U 2-iron 19° KBS Tour S

Titleist 712U 3-iron 22° KBS Tour S

Titleist 681 4-iron to 9-iron KBS Tour S

Titleist SM5 48.08F Raw 49° KBS Tour S

Titleist SM5 56.10M Raw 56° KBS Tour S

Ping Eye 2 Gorge L Wedge 60° KBS Tour S  &  Ping Pal

Tourstage Z101's. I believe these are vintage ~2003 or so when they stopped making them. Simply put........I demo EVERYTHING I can get my hands on, and I love testing and demoing equipment.

:man_in_love:

As I've posted many, many times........I simply have not ever demoed, tested, owned, or fondled a set of clubs as spectacular as these. In every way.....they're superb. I cannot make that statement about any other iron on the market. (for ME of course!)

I couldn't agree more. I've had mine in the bag at least 4 years, and there's nothing better out there for my game. In fact, I even went to HotStix a few months ago and nothing worked better for me than my trusty Z101's. Too bad I'm hitting so many 2nd shots out of the desert...I'm really starting to beat the hell out of them!

Played with the same original set of Ping Zing 2's for 14 years, with exception of the Lob which I added 2 years ago.

Living in Scottsdale I'm able to play year round and average 110 rounds a year. Wow....these irons have 1540 rounds on them. Have had them refinished at Ping 5 times. Great irons!!! Obviously I have no plans to replace them.

Still playing my Precept Tour Premium irons. Don't know exactly how old they are, because I bought them used. Might be from 2000 or 2001. Bought them 2003 and only betrayed them once for two weeks with a set of nike blades and one round of playing Z101s. Looking for something new, the J33 Combo are nice, tried them once and they felt really good. Maybe this year they are going to become a little cheaper, as the new J36 line is out.

Best Regards, Marcel

Picked up a set of X-14 pro series irons over the winter... had these 7 years ago and loved them....even got a hole in one with the 8 iron, so I am going to give them another go....I just find that as far as club technology goes for the lower handicapper, the new irons just havent made that much of a difference.

I play a set of original Nike PC irons. When I bought them I was a plus 2 and now after 2 kids...well, let's just say my glory days are behind me! Although, my 3 1/2 year old son has a great swing and loves golf so far so maybe in a couple of years I can really get back in the game and buy some new irons. Then I will be able to justify the cost. Playing 10 times a year doesn't make me want to buy new irons.

I've played the same MP-32's for the last 4 years, Its easy to get use to a set and learn how the club is going to react in certain situations... They have had enough though and being retired this spring.

I've also played MP-32s for 3 years and they were used when I bought them off this site. An excellent iron. This year, however, retiring them for AP2.

2005 set of Hogan Apex FTX irons. They are the only "blended" set that I have found that suits my eye.

Don't care for the new Titleist Z-Blends... I like the Mizuno MP-32s, but I need a little forgiveness in the 5 and 4 irons. Not brave enough to create my own blended set, although if I don't like the Titleist AP2s, I am seriously considering creating my own blended Mizuno set this year.

Been playing the Titleist 681s since 2001. On my second set now and already have a 3rd set that I bought brand new on ebay ready to go when these wear out.

I tried some other irons such as the 690MB, 690.MB, 680 and MP-32 but none of them impressed me very much. Something about the narrow sole and constant offset that makes these blades very confidence inspiring even in the long irons. I did finally dump the 3-iron last year for a 20* hybrid.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Cobra ZL 10.5 driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Apex 4 soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)
Odyssey ProType 9 putter
