Seems life more money than the record setting Players last weekend. It’s hard to imagine the reality of this with no cuts will not lure some folks

54 players with no cuts - guaranteed moneyz - 20 million ind, 5 mil team.

edit - that's a lot of moola folks are gonna bail

The first seven events will boast a $25 million purse, $20 million for individual prizes and another $5 million for the team competition. The eighth event will offer $30 million for the top three players of the season, with another $50 million for teams in total prize funds.

I was skeptical until I saw the purses for this thing. People are gonna show up.

8 tournament with no cuts all with purses bigger than the players

Like Pat Perez said. Nobody from LIV had approached him, but if they offer that $100m bag, he's gone. If they manage to create this league without negatively affecting players' major championship eligibility, you will see a lot of people jump ship. Now whether we have two tours that co-exist, or an IRL/CART-esque feud where one side eventually cannibalizes the other, I'm not smart enough to predict.

This isn't going to lure away the new young crop of twenty something players that grew up watching Tiger, and want to win the Masters and the British Open and chase Tiger's trophy count.  Who is going to be lured away are the veterans that pretty much sit in the Top 50-100 rankings, win an event once every 3-5 years, whose legacy within the PGA has already been established.  I.e. you are good, not top 10, but you are known.  They still make excellent money, but not crazy money.

Now imagine you get a healthy sign-on bonus.  Get to play 8 events a year, fly first class, have your family with you, and get to do some fun team events.  Oh yeah, and probably make as much finishing 23rd as you did when you won a generic PGA event back in 2017.

I'm actually excited about the team event aspect.  I always thought a team based event would be fun for the PGA and its main sponsors to put together.  Team Callaway vs Team Taylormade vs Team Nike vs Team Addidas etc.  3-4 events per year earning points, end of season team playoff event.

They're going to kick this thing off in London the week before the US Open?  Right.  So no one who is serious about winning the US Open is going to show up for it.  I'm sure it'll be a great field of all-world check cashers though.  Amazing that these people still haven't learned that there are things in life money can't buy.

If their eligibility for majors isn't affected, you absolutely will see younger players jump ship to secure generational wealth.

yup. if i’m fresh outta college or the KFT with no guarantee of a paycheck on the PGA tour and have a chance to put a couple of commas in my bank account, im going ASAP.

that’s the route they should have taken if they were serious about starting a competing league. starve the PGA tour of its new up and coming talent.

but i see the appeal in wanting to get a few big names on board.

I read the article that was linked. It looked like to me that the Asian Tour has sanctioned these LIV tournaments, So wouldn't that give them world ranking points based on strength of field? Thus giving players a path to the majors.

Tempting if you only have to play 8 weeks per year for guaranteed appearance money plus huge purses, possibly against less than typical PGAT talent.

Still need to get a legit TV player lined up.

Still not a fan.

Right, but I wasn't talking about fresh out of KFT.  I meant to specify the guys like Hovland, Morikawa etc.  They are PGA players thru and thru.  They are chasing legacy and trophies and Tiger's record.  Right now, that young group makes up a lot of the top 20.

IF the PGA commish hasn't put a clampdown on these guys behind closed doors, sure, they could play some of these events as the schedule sees fit.  But I have a feeling LIV is looking for full time players for their tour, not people coming in and hand picking one or two events.  But maybe they will just to get the buzz going, and promote it.

3 rounds = smells a lot like tantalizing bait for potential Champion Tour legends to come party and add name recognition. Question is, will they allow carts 😉
