The SGL needs more transparency.  Norman needs to hold a press conference and answer questions.

Why answer questions when you can just sit around all "GREATEST THING EVER COMING IN 4 TO 6 WEEKS! STAY TUNED FOR BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING ANY DAY NOW!"

I get the point but that techincially may not be true.   Since I have to konw contracts / law aspects to a heavy extent when it comes to independent contractors.  Under US Federal laws the players could be protected under discrimination which the PGA tour would loose 99% of the time honestly.   It all comes down to the what was signed by the players.  I am sure JM is dancing around the comments they are know as well does SGL/LIV its a VERY thin stance.   *Only relating this to US court system

Honestly though the PGA tour could just not just say "sorry we do not have any job openings"  or set some standards of qualification to limit who can make the events but that would make them look pretty bad I would think.

The bottom line is someone offered up something different and the PGA tour is upset as it hurts it product.   Simple is that but is how business is and will always be.

Might want to google Harry Toscano when you have a sec. Precedent is on the Tour’s side here.

I agree and I read that.  Again as noted both parties are not being forthcoming and unless someone on here has a signed a contract for requirements of the PGA tour or whatever I doubt we will know.

As noted it is how the contract(s) is written for sure now.  Only thing I can find is the 15 event minimum for fact.

Edit: Also no idea why Harry named who he did in that case. Trying to say sponsors.... Only made it worse for him IMHO and given he played a lot of the events the first 3 years on the senior tour.... odd

I am sure the reason JM is dancing around the comment by Tirico on PHIL being allowed to play. They know the debate for SGL/LIV is a VERY thin stance.   *Only relating this to US court system

“It all comes down to the what was signed by the players.”

There you go.

“PGA tour is upset as it hurts it product.   Simple as that but is how business is and will always be.”

Exactly, that’s why the players sign a contract saying they won’t hurt the tour

By joining another freakin golf tour! 🤣

Right?!?

Norman’s been trying to run the tour out of business since back when he was choking away majors as fast as he could get into contention. Do people really think there’s nothing in the current PGA Tour bylaws designed to nip that sort of thing in the bud?

In 1984, there were 3 super-regions of power. On the surface, they were enemies, the people all thought so.

But, they actually were in collusion and just staged all the geopolitical strife to keep the masses riled up and working with their heads down, and make and consume resources.

The “inner party” actually didn’t care or have any interest in a true showdown war, they were just keeping the billions distracted while they ate all the good food and got hot chicks.

Sound familiar? ; )

Yep - Like a broken record - brother.

They're going to kick this thing off in London the week before the US Open?  Right.  So no one who is serious about winning the US Open is going to show up for it.  I'm sure it'll be a great field of all-world check cashers though.  Amazing that these people still haven't learned that there are things in life money can't buy.

For some, it’s just a job.  Not everyone seeks or craves immortality.

However, as a passive spectator, why am I going to want to watch a bunch of athletes who just want to cash a check.

Imagine?!  Please do.  It would hurt China a lot more.

This is always a fundamental misunderstanding of how foreign debt/trade works.  Calling in debt would be stupid.  Now if China kept the debt but refused to buy more; that could be interesting.

I realize it's stupid. Just saying we aren't going to cut off all trade etc... With China. Makes no sense.

It’s impossible to discard this kind of money. Players would be stupid not to go for these paydays. It’s generational and sets up their families for life.

The tour has granted exemptions for other events, why not this? I can’t imagine how selectively allowing some tournaments and not others will hold up in court. Arbitrary and capricious is what that’s called and is an untenable legal position in the US.

I suspect some players will be walking back their position. How’s it going to sit with the top players when they see golfers they consider inferior making more money than they are? There’s no reason they can’t play these 8 events and maintain the tours minimum 15 requirement. Of course some alternate events will suffer but the Saudis are not going anywhere. They had their chance to bail in the face of all the negativity but they didn’t. That should tell you something.

You want to watch it? All they have to do is stream it online. They don’t need a media partner in todays world.

Interesting times. Probably lots of legal maneuvering but the end result is more money for professional golfers.

Doesn't Norman have a legitimate reason for taking on the PGA Tour? Didn't he try to create a World Golf Tour or something that was supposed to supplement the PGA Tour in a similar fashion to what we are seeing, and then Finchem basically bullied him into submission and created the WGC?

I think this is a sad rationale.

We aren't talking about guys trying to feed and shelter their families here.  Just buying a larger more opulent mansion.

I think the top players play around 22-25 total events. But that includes the fedex.

They can’t  play 8+ events on a rival tour and stay on the pga tour. The tour would make a successful case that their actions are clearly not in the interest of the tour on 2 or more levels. And I think playing events on a rival tour during the pga tour season would be a conflict the tour would not tolerate.,

But, they are free to leave the pga tour and join the SGL. If they feel great about the SGL and it accomplishes their goals.

Go ahead.

But, the players would have a legit beef if LIV staged events of the off season and the tour did not let them play a couple.

That’s the best compromise I can see.
