Patty T: I'm A Fan

I've been watching the rain fall outside my window in southern Arizona while watching Playing Lessons with Bones on Golf Channel.  Today's guest was Patty Tavatanakit.  The young lady has game, that much is obvious, but I got a window into her golf IQ and personality.  Really interesting to listen to a player of her caliber walk through the process of assessing lie, shot shape, where to land it, how the ball should behave on impact and what that may leave for the next shot.   What an engaging and delightful young woman.

 

Bones:  You've hit a great drive on this par 5.  Are you thinking of laying up to a preferred number and angle?

PattyT:  I never lay up.  Anything inside 150 is a birdie look and the closer the better.

 

She's got me hook, line and sinker.

I certainly hope she wouldn't lay up with 150 left. Even Mo Martin can handle that.

Nope.  She was well over 200 yards back.  The question was do you go or do you play to a number.  She hit a 5 wood to the fringe.

Right on, I guess her answer kinda makes it sound like she's left with 150, at least that's how I read it. I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the pack. 🙃

For sure...I saw this one as well.  Patty is definitely one of my new favs.  Also, L.Ko is growing on me for some reason.  She seems calmer, cooler, maybe she has grown into one of the elder stateswomen of the game (not that she is old, but been doin it a while).

What’s been up with her this season. Haven’t seen her name up much and just saw her making the cut in the Scottish in shorts minus the go to white pants no less.  😀

Well, she did post a 76 yesterday and did 10 shots better today with a 66!  🙂   She has had an up and down year so far.  But hey, who would have thought Atthaya would have a missed cut here?

In Patty's rookie year (2020), she had rough year, marked with inconsistent play, making some cuts and not, and then when she won at the ANA/Chevron in 2021, she attributed her 2020 as being full of personal turmoil that sapped her energy and attention, but that she had put it behind her and was able to play freely. 

Well, her inconsistency this season had me wondering if something may have been up, and it appears it was more turmoil in her personal life.  Sad to see because she is extremely talented player, but professional golf is a lonely life at times.  

 

Anyway, this is an interview she gave today regarding her 66 and making the cut today:

I hope her off the course problems get resolved. I really enjoy watching her play.

I always make sure to check and see how Patty is doing when i check the leaderboards. Lately ive been disappointed to find im having to scroll too far. She's such a good and talented player and i wanna see her play well.

 

After the first round i saw she was +4 so to see her shoot the 66 and follow it up with another really good round today makes me really happy.

she’s one of my favorite swings out there so always pulling for her but the old guy in me wishes these kids would just stay off social media.

I'm a big fan, but the poor form unfortunately continues. I was really hoping to see her on TV coverage during this BMW Champs, but that won't happen with a 77 & 78! 

 

Anyone with some intel? What is happening and how can she bounce back?
