BEST IRONS 2022: Discussion Thread

Heard people say they both feel hard. That not true?

Well, neither will ever be mistaken for an Endo forging but the performance outweighs the firmness.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Everyone will have their own opinion when it comes to what "The Best" is.  Whatever some likes, is the best, in their opinion.  It's human nature.

Over the last 3 years, I have had Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway, Pxg, Wilson and New Level irons in my bag.  By far, New Level has been the best performing irons out of the bunch for me.    So..... IMO, New Level is the Best Performing!!!

Yes, articles not quite in line with the expectation of the wrx audience.

the solution is fairly simple though. Change the title into “this are the xyz irons fitters like /tend to fit their client base into”

really, it reflects fitter preference more than anything. Since they want to marry doing a good job for their client base with earning a living the outcome I think is pretty spot on with what you could expect.

The best irons for 2022 are infinitesimally improvements over irons from 2010-2021. There is only so much that can be done. Are there step function changes that represent leaps in technology?  Maybe a foam fill or slot (PXG, Taylormade, etc.) Maybe a unique sold grind (Srixon.) Maybe some tungsten weighting? The majority of new irons are a derivative of old designs.

Its the indian, not the arrow. Or whatever the woke 2022 version of that is.

I have hit everything out there under the sun. You know what I have decided is best?

is what ever I think is best for me. Lol..

last year I played Srixon zx7s. Fantastic iron, I love them and still have them and still put them in play.

no I have a mixed bag of mizuno pro irons. The 225s are a solid step forward from the HMBs. And the 221s are another solid and subtle step forward from the MP20s.

there are a lot of great clubs. Lists like this are just for entertaining reading and maybe an idea of what to try in a fitting in a category of club that interests you. Don’t take them too seriously.

Beginner here - I agree I haven’t played any blades, I can’t/don’t shape shots yet but I can land fairways and hold the greens with my irons fairly consistently thanks to the Ping G425 Max irons. Never felt better hitting a 4 iron off the deck and see it land on the fairway 70 yards out on a 272 yard par 4 and consistently holding the greens on short par 3s with a 7/8 iron and at times with a pitching wedge is pure pleasure. Compressing the irons taking divots only added to the pleasure. To me, they truly belong in the Easiest to launch, Pure enjoyment categories plus if I may add Most technologically packed, Top overall performers and Most forgiving( I added that) categories as well. Also, enjoying the forum quite a bit especially reading the comments on such threads!

Couldn't of said it any better.  Just recently i got fitted, I got the Mizuno Pro 225's 4-7 (7 iron bent 1 degree weak) and went with the 221's 8-PW (8 iron bent 2 strong and 9 iron bent 1 strong) and then three brand new T22 Wedges - S Grinds in 50/54 and D Grind in 58.  Idk how it was possible BUT THEY ALL FELT THE BEST. So Mizuno is what i went with.

Ive been playing golf for a very long time, coming out of Apex Pros 2014 model with Project X PXI 6.0 shafts to New Mizunos with Nippon Modus 120 X.  Legit cant wait to get them and hit them.

I like my ZX7s... but I also liked my AP2 710s.  I did a fitting last year and liked the ZX7s best, especially in terms of the feel.  I probably could have been happen with P770, T100, or something.  Did not try Mizuno and am now kind of wishing I did just for completeness.

I’m with you Quigley! I have 225s, Stealth and G425 irons and really hate the fact, THE fact that I only have so many rounds left to play in my life. Best scores-G425, best feel and shock and AWE- 225, best feeling newcomer to the PowerBats  club - Stealth. What ever tickles our fancy because life is short!

Yep yep!! The thing is to just enjoy these articles. They are fun. Don’t get frustrated because your fav whatever didn’t come in first or you think the list is biased. It’s fun. Play what you like and what works for you. Who cares what someone else likes or doesn’t like. If they say something the makes you interested. Try it and find out for yourself.

That is a very interesting/anomalous WITB you have there, but whatever work, works!

So very true.   People spending tons money on clubs etc...go get lessons and understand the swing etc. Guy at purxue univ age 58 plays big Bertha irons from 10 yrs ago and shot 3 under....lessons in 2021 20 hours.
