Cobra 3D printed putters - 2022 RBC Heritage Classic

Recommended Posts

So clearly everyone has some sort of an iteration of a particular brand’s trademark shape. The TM spider to the Odyssey 10, etc but these putter, even though the look and feel fantastic. It just seems like instead of putting their own spin on things they just decided to absolutely ripoff of every popular shape over the last 5 years.

The amount of wear on that putter is concerning for new buyers, no way that'd happen with a regular putter (that dramatically) - the grooves are completely worn away 😮

Nice catch there. I wonder if there is a little more to the story, than simple wear.

I do like that they are adding some new shapes. Hopefully they keep evolving. I can appreciate the concept and the non-traditional approach with this line.

Those who design their own unique shapes are criticized for making ugly putters. Those who copy proven shapes are criticized for copying. My best guess is that the traditional shapes sell better than the non traditional shapes. Cobra has at least put a unique spin on the traditional shape.

Damned if you do damned if ya don’t

but very fair point Grumpy

Is there some sort of major advantage to 3D printing for the eventual end user of the putter?

Good question. I'm guessing they'd probably answer it's so they can manufacture to tighter tolerances.

Whether or not this is necessary is another matter.

I heard they're going to offer the LA shafts if you want to spend the extra money.

I remember them saying a few things about it, vibration dampening properties as well as weight distribution. Another thing to think about is it makes it possible to create pockets and cavities so much easier than trying to cast it with metal. In the end I dont think it makes a huge difference but cool to see someone pushing the envelope on design.

It's mainly for weight saving/distribution, the lattices can add strength to that too, like you said the may not be a huge difference, but the face and design has shown some impressive results with Quintic.

I can't remember the name for it (it's sole/bounce for a putter), but I'd imagine some tinkerer didn't like the way it was sitting and had a bit ground off.

I don’t necessarily love the “assembled” look of the Agera and I don’t get why Cobra has to show off the 3D printing with those plastic wings sticking out, but I have to say that thing is one of the smoothest rolling, easiest to aim mallets I’ve ever tested. Very, very easy to start putts on your line with the Agera.

Sport is for arcs, wide would be for straight back/through. Would that be a good fit ?

I much prefer the black Agera. Had the silver one and found it to be a bit too busy with all the silver so it was hard to line up so traded it for something easier to aim.

if they could just get the head weight down from 380 grams I would still have mine. Was good on slow greens but anything firm and fast was hard to control distance.
