Nice opening round of even par by the amateur Anna Davis. 

 

Moriya shot her best round of the season, which has been rather poor up to this point.

 

Definitely liking the course. Reminds me of the Evian Resort with the elevation changes are sloping fairways. Like Wilshire CC, it can produce birdies, or some big numbers. Hopefully the weather is similar today so yesterday's afternoon wave can get back into the mix.

Weather seems to be hindering their performance..

65 high today, probably bit cold for most..  Ideal for me..

These California courses are interesting; birdies co-exist with bogeys, doubles and others.

Lydia lit it up early. Five under on her front nine with an eagle on the 7th. Trouble on the back, though. Solid 4 under round. 

 

She loves Lake Merced, and seems to be enjoying this one.

Totally. I feel her pain. I have a pretty upright stroke, am a digger, not a picker. Hit down hard, take a big divot (in the Northeast, where I mostly play right now - the lush bentgrass). In Florida, Arizona, or Texas, with their Bermuda or Kikuya, I have to flatten my swing somewhat, but it feels slightly unnatural - like I'm hitting off a mat instead of actual grass. Turf interaction is a seriously big variable if you play on a wide variety of courses (as all the pros do).

Seems a lot of players were just treading water, especially on the back nine. Curious if they'll set up the course a little easier today and/or tomorrow. Coming down the stretch could be a snoozer if there aren't opportunities for late charges.

She's a 16 year old amateur. She won the Augusta National Women's Amateur a few weeks ago.

Agree with comments here that it looks like you must take advantage of the scoring opportunities in the front 9 because the back 9 is proving to be really tough.  This is gonna make it an exciting Sunday finish I hope.  Really wish GC would start the coverage earlier.  Not really interested in the Champions Tour.
