PGA Championship 2022

The 2nd major of the year is upon us with the 104th PGA Championship heading to Southern Hills in Tulsa. We head into the week sans a defending champion, with Phil Mickelson a year on from his extraordinary and record breaking triumph sitting this one out. We should have the anti-Phil in Tiger Woods teeing it up around a venue he has won on before although surely, making the cut will be an achievement for TW this week. Numerous other big names head into the week with decent form with the likes of Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama and Scottie Scheffler all looking to add to their major haul whilst guys such as Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Viktor Hovland all looking to get of the major mark. It should be a great week (of which I will miss the majority as I am on holiday in Spain and just posting this whilst my wife has popped downstairs so she doesn’t think I am a complete and utter golf geek even on holiday 😂).

course, looks a bit par foury but the finishing holes seems to have some appeal though.

Any new techical stuff to enhance following the tournament? TV or online? Love that ”every shot” they had at Masters.

Does this course favor any type of player like faders or players that draw the balls? How about green size? I went to the course website but unlike National Augusta, it doesn't have course layout for each hole but only a brief description. Put $20 (1:20) on Morikawa and $10 (1:25) on Hovland.

This is a pretty good primer on the changes. Greens have apparently shrunk with the fairways opened up.

Thank you. Looks like most of the greens are raised and balls are going to roll away if you miss them a little bit. Lots of water and little creeks. With wind up to 18 mph on the first 2 days it is going to be a nightmare.

I played at a muni in Tulsa (shout out to LaFortune Park) this past December on an unseasonably balmy and calm, sunny day, and the locals I paired up with could not stop talking about how atypical it was that the wind was below 10mph.  I was led to believe that 15-20mph winds in Tulsa is pretty much the norm, and the winds aren't afraid to gust up stronger than that, too.  It's almost always a factor down there.

It's typically not scheduled so it might be tough, there may be information posted at the course?

Anxious to see the course changes to Southern Hills, looks like chipping will be at a premium from tight lies around the greens.  I think the final winning score will be higher than Tiger's 2007 winning score of -8.  Seems like it is going to present a lot of challenges this week, although weather looks mile with moderate wind.  I'll go ahead and pick Joaquin Niemann to get his first major and cement himself as a young superstar on the tour.  Honestly though it seems like there are 50 guys who could win this week.

Really sounds like everything is coming together for a great major from the renovation, to the dry conditions, to the wind.  It’s going to be fun.
