Driver: Mavrik to Epic Max - worth changing?

There's nary a driver out there that i can hit further than my Mavrik with Rogue White 130MSI. As i've said in multiple threads the Mavrik is the most underrated driver of the last 5-10 years. Exceptional feel and classic head shape.

Sometimes new stuff is fun though--But the later Callaways aren't "better" IMO

Thanks for the feedback.  My Mavrik has the same Rogue White shaft in the 60-S.  I have a 70-S Rogue White in my 3+W and love it.

LOL i have the same woods as you with the same shafts. For me they are the longest and best feeling clubs i own. I do rotate in my PXGs here and there because i have a shorter shaft and higher swing weight in those, and accuracy wise i'm a bit better but it's not the clubs

A well hit shot with the Mav still gives me my best results

Nice combo!  Do you by chance know the swingweights of your Mavrik D and 3+W?  I have GP Microsuede standard grips and with no added lead tape and just the stock weights, mine are D4.3 and D3.3 respectively.

no i can't say that i do---that sounds a little high though....i would've guessed D2 which is pretty common but i have no idea.

I like heavy drivers though, my PXG plays heavier , and my other driver is a 44.5 Radspeed XB that i play at 45.25 with a 80G shaft, so it's basically a sledgehammer

Ha ha...I had set my Sub 70 849 Pro head with the max weights once and referred to it as "Mjölnir" at E2.1.

Funny just tried this…currently play a mavrik with the rdx smoke blue but bought a max LS with the ad di 6x shaft. Distance was not as far with the max LS however the spin was a bit more consistent but I still didn’t feel as comfortable as I did with my mavrik. I will say the sliding weight is great, really helped some miss shots. I ended up sticking the ad di shaft in the mavrik and wow it has been amazing. I will be selling the epic.

Have the mavrik sz in the southern bag.

Very satisfied with the performance, and also have several shafts to work with from previous callaway drivers, thanks to callaway keeping the same

hosel attachment. Did pick this driver up

on a model end pricing sale.

It has a nice feel, the sound is good, and the distance is very consistent  and

longer than previous models. Very pleased with this purchase.

Personally, did not see any gains on the epic, for myself, no reason to switch.

Good stuff. I love my Mavrik SZ 3 wood and was thinking of adding the driver as a replacement/backup to the TSi2 I already have in the bag. Good pricing to be had and while I love the TSi2, you always feel your leaving 10 yards on the table with Titleist.

I tested both on my route to settling on the Mavrik SZ. I truly believe there’s hardly anything to pick between the equivalent models other than personal preference. The only contradiction to this is the Mavrik SZ beat the Epic Speed hands down.

Based on all of this I wouldn’t be changing unless you test and find very different results to what I did.

OP, I love me some CPO sales as much as anyone but if the Mav is working likely not much going to happen in the Epic Speed in terms of improvement. Max will be a bit more forgiving as a head design, probably higher spin but only testing and data can really determine it for you.

I get along well with the Mav and never considered testing the Speed line. I am only curious to test the Rogue ST line for reports of a more stable face for off center hits but I won't be spending any coin until I test it and if I see any measurable improvement on the launch monitor and such.

I had the Mavrik and it was a really long club for me and accurate most times. Tried the Epic Max and didn't see any real change in distance but I was not hitting as many fairways. I ended up switching to the G425 Max because it is a fairway finder but I will say I am 15-20 yards shorter than my Mavrik. I kept the Mavrik though and might bring it back out one day it was that good.
