Never saw a “boom”! There has been steady growth for several years and a increase of Covid players. There are still plenty of folks on the driving range , with their kids, and T-times are booked from near daylight to dark at the 12 or so courses we play daily.

I see no decline in golf interest.

I think it will pick up again, where I am last year we would have to book min a week in advance to get a weekend tee time. Yesterday my buddy easily booked at tee time during the long weekend on a Wednesday.

Obviously some courses were booked solid but we had like 4 options when last year was maybe 1 if we were fast.

I think the Pandemic will be similar to the Tiger boom. Several of the new "Pandemic players" will stick around for a few years and then it will likely return to normal again.

Courses around here seem to be doing fine still. It wasn't as crazy this year to book tee times as the past 2 years, when golf was ALL that you were allowed to do (last year, the local range near my old house had people waiting in lines 5 deep behind each stall the day it opened)

I think the boom period is over for sure. There's no way new golfers are added this year

Yeah, it was pretty clear it was a lot of like 20-30y/os that picked it up in that time and I attribute the sort of bro culture that developed over the last several years. I don't see it as much since moving back to Vegas and joining a club; but when I was still in LA ... the ol' Chesty - where I once could roll up in the evenings for a practice sesh and damn near have the range to myself, I'd have to wait 45mins for a stall.

But as most of us know, it's really hard to pick this game up as an adult. So I won't be surprised to see dropoffs.

Its slowing down for sure here in Orange County CA. I am now able to book tee times day of and there are plenty of weekend times at courses where I couldn't get any times. Summer is coming and I can pick up a tee time at a great twilight hour when last  year this was not possible at all.

It's not showing any signs of slowing down here, and I kinda wish it would a little. Tee sheets are full and lineups at driving ranges, both things I didn't experience pre-Covid.

I'm sure over the next year or so we'll see a lot of the newer players drop off, but I'm sure a few who've found a true love for the game will stick around.

I've always said, in most places golf is largely played by teenagers, college kids and people 55+. People between 25-55 just have a hard time playing consistently. The pandemic changed that because 32yr olds were trapped in their houses or Apts for months on end in some places, and golf was a way to get out which was sorely needed.

In normal times these bros will make the disastrous mistake of getting married, at which point any sort of fun will no longer be permitted. And they end up playing 10-15 rounds a year at most until they get older

A few years back, i believe of the 50-55 "A" players we had at our club, only 1-2 were between 25 and 50 years old. I've lost most of my golf friends in the same age group (30-40) to kids.

with the pandemic (hopefully) retreating, people in midrange age wise will go back their miserable lives playing poker once a week and promising to be home by 9pm, and likely will stop golfing

There is another thread going about this same topic..

I was talking with a buddy about this yesterday..I think we will start to see a slow down a little this summer and more so next year as pricing is getting out of touch for the average joe to play in my area..

Decent courses start at 110 and go up to 300

My buddy is a member at a nice course in my area and he was talking with the head pro and he said they had so much traffic on the course it was getting pounded during the height of covid

This year they raised prices again it's now 160...

There plan of attack was raise prices and lesson the wear and tear on the course..

That hasn't slowed it down a lot as they are are still busy..not jammed like they were though

Can the average Joe afford to spend 500 a month on golf and 130   to fuel there vehicle and let's not forget the new car payment

Ohhhh and of course they need a holiday now as they haven't been able to travel

$ only goes so far

No slow down here either. Our waiting list is up over 100 people now, and our initiation fee is up.

WOW!! Where do you live, Monterey?

Just played a State owned course yesterday which by comparison equals most private in the area for $25.00, upped from $20.00 last fall.

An "expensive " course around here is $100. Every public course is under $50.00 during the week and $58 on weekends. Throw in senior rates and we’re talking $35-$45 anywhere you go.
Now private/public courses can be around $100 and up to $200 for non- members to play but a "decent course" at $110 to $300!!

Afraid I couldn’t pack my crap and move fast enough from that mess.
Feel sorry for you, unless you do live in Monterey then mehhhh.

On a totally different note, we could do with a hairdresser boom around my parts. Heaps of them have left the industry since the start of the pandemic, for understandable reasons.

Went in for a cut this morning and had the usual conversation:

Hairdresser: "Hi I'm Tiffany, I started on Tuesday because Mandy left. I'm a trainee".

Me: "I would never have guessed."
