I have an internal septic tank. And it can’t be emptied.

After 70 years of taking in all this crap, my tank is full.

I have no more room for crap, so I respectfully ask that the world give its crap to someone else.

Sincerely,

Soloman1

After 64 years, I fully understand. I could never express it as eloquently as you did, though. It was truly a work of art.

I have nothing but compliments for the coverage thus far by ESPN.

SVP = such a smooth voice for calling golf action.

Hawkeye has spoken.  So let it be written, so let it be done.

Not sure what broadcast you were watching, but it wasn't the same one I saw.  But ok, you declare it to be not so.

Personal nonsense uncalled for.

Happy to read the quotes from any announcer equating Tiger playing in the PGA to anything resembling acts of heroism in WWII, as you were.

Maybe the perspective issue isn’t with them?

Joe Buck is the Rodney Dangerfield of golf announcers.

Disclaimer: I've been watching the flawless coverage on SkySports golf.

Except reversed….Buck get too much respect and Rodney…none.

I’ve got an idea.

Crowdsource coverage with people using live feeds from their phones. The person holding the phone gets to do their own commentary. It would probably be funnier.

Pick a hole from the site menu showing the feed.

It would still be crap, but not Joe Buck level of crap.

In all fairness the Joe Buck doing golf level is awfully low.

Can't compare golf with those other sports. NBA/NFL/MLB is much easier to cover, the venues don't change every week and far fewer cameras are needed. Most of those arenas even have their own production facilities, not going to have that at a golf course that at most might have 2 events in a year, likely not even that.

Yeah I totally get that - but at the same time, they cover golf today. So clearly it can be done, and someone can do it - why can't  that "someone" be PGA themselves?

If CBS/ESPN/Sky or whatever can do it, why can't PGA (or an exclusive and global partner thereof) do it?

Future historians will call this time the “Age of Crap.”

Everything is crap. Cheap crappy plastic crap, TV is crap, the Internet is 97.3% crap, social media is crap, crappy software that doesn’t work, the DMV is crap, restaurant service is crap, fast food is crap, drivers on the road are crap, roads are crap, customer service is crap, automated answering that tells you to listen because their menu has changed is crap and so on.

Crap is the new normal and it’s going to get worse. So, I guess we just have to accept it.

This is a good example of what we were talking about the other day---- We need the old man shaking his fist at the cloud icon in the "likes" column .

Right, but why would the tour want to take on all that expense? They're getting massive amounts of $$ from their TV deals so they're unlikely to want to mess with a good thing. This might help:

I honestly don't know - it all started as a bit of selfish wishful thinking. I'd prefer to pay a $8.99 subscription to just watch the golf, than a $70 cable thing with oodles of programming I'm not interested in.

I'm not gonna pretend that I know what I'm talking about, from my probably rather naive point of view; some fat-cat at PGA needs to fork out some capex for a bunch of cameras as a long term investment, and in return get to keep the whole broadcasting revenue in perpetuity. He wins, I win.
But as with everything, there are probably a million factors at play that us laypeople can't see or doesn't consider.

A guy can dream though, eh? 🙂

Right now I'm not watching live golf, it's just prohibitively expensive for the few hours a week I can watch.. and the youtube golfers are getting pretty damn good and entertaining to boot!  At this rate I get as much out of watching to see whether Zac Radford, James Wiltshire, Grant Horvatt, George Bryan et. al. can get around < 70 as I do a PGA tour event. I like the personal touch and additional insight I get from hearing it "from the horses mouth" as opposed to some guy in a studio guessing what's in someone's mind.

It makes me wonder if I'm in a minority here or if "long-form" golf as we know it today is doomed long term?

Well, you can get ESPN+ for $7/mo and that gets you all the Th/Fr early round coverage, then the weekend golf is on "free" TV channels.

Doesn't get you DP World Tour or LPGA but for $7 it's not bad for the amount of golf you get.

And that $8.99 you want....isn't going to get you anything close to that. Probably would be more like $20-30 a month just for PGA tour coverage.
