Charles Schwab Challenge 2022

The PGA Tour heads to Texas and the Colonial Country Club which is inextricably linked to the late, great Ben Hogan. His ties to the course never seem to be far from the mind this week and in a fitting throwback, the course typically presents an old school challenge which continues to present problems for our modern day hero’s. As is often the way in a post major week, there are some notable absences from the field but a look through the entry list reveals a strong field nonetheless. Defending Champion Jason Kokrak will be there - he might not have many PGA Tour events left in him depending on what happens with the Saudi’s - but the field is headlined by our most recent major winners in Justin Thomas and home favourite and world number 1, Scottie Scheffler.

Defending Champion:-

Jason Kokrak

Notables in the Field:-

Justin Thomas

Scottie Scheffler

Collin Morikawa

Jordan Spieth

Will Zalatoris

Bryson DeChambeau

Sam Burns

Daniel Berger

Tony Finau

Max Homa

Viktor Hovland

Patrick Reed

Webb Simpson

Course:-

Colonial Country Club

Par 70

7,209 yards

Although I have specious reasons for thinking so, I feel that Morikawa, Burns and Ancer will show up this week.

They're all relatively straight off the tee, and above average on approach.

You don't seem to need to be long or putt lights out to win here, but you've got to be solid tee to green.

Morikawa definitely has some form around here. Lost out in a playoff a couple of years ago to Daniel Berger.

TCU alum and Fort Worth resident Tom Hoge wins this week.

He knows the course and he's sleeping in his own bed every night.

Not hugely surprising given what he mentioned last week but what I cannot fathom is if it wasn't good to go last week, how much he thought it was going to improve in 6 or 7 days. He seemed to enter everything and then withdraw before The Masters and now he has done the same with the PGA and now this. Would he not be better served to actual listen to what his doctors are saying and give it the time that it needs.

Impressed with JT remaining committed to the event having won last week. Seems like it would have been pretty easy to pull his name out. Got to imagine that last week will have taken him out of it - got to imagine that if there was a week where his run of made cuts in a row comes under pressure then it would be this week.

Thats like in 75% of the cases, in 25% the player will bring the momentum from the last week into playing great the week after.

Colonial is an invitational, I imagine he left his name in the hat in case he was feeling good to play after the PGA. He withdrew in a timely enough fashion so his spot can be filled.

A bag of left-handed junk.

haha, maybe not.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is to know that Max V is the next Lewis H and there's nothing you can do about it. Plus Christian Horner isn't the most likeable guy in the world.

Some of these announcers on ESPN+ are amazing.

Reed sets up on left side of the tee box, aims right for his normal shot pattern and its quite obvious what hes going to hit.

Announcer: "Well this shot calls for a fade. Lets watch for that twirl at the top that he has when he hits it left to right."

Reed hits obvious shot he set up for and from the announcers reaction you would have thought he had just spotted a Chupacabra.

Within a minute he talks about how you can tell what someone is going to hit by which side of the tee box they set up on.

To be fair, he is so smart that they do need to come up with some sort of qualification beyond Doctor for Bryson.

When's the last time a guy played the week after winning a major and won?

Just so you know:  Justin is positioning himself for the most important Championship of the season....The FedEx Cup. Eighteen Mill makes it more important than any Major.

They won't admit it but I have no problem speaking the truth for them.....LOL!  IMO
