A friend of mine works at a top tier club in the area that is mainly walking with a caddy program.  Someone showed up with a staff bag loaded to the gills.  Caddiemaster said they would transfer his clubs into a walking bag for his round.  He stated he wanted to use his bag to which the caddy master asked if he wanted to play the golf course today and if he did he would be using the bag provided.

I wish our leadership would support that stance. What you described is the right way to handle it. But, the resort world can be a bit different at times. It's like slow play. People can be scared to make a guest mad by getting on them or forcing them to skip holes, but at the same time they're willing to accept that every other tee time is being screwed and getting mad. Oh well.

i needed a bag for some spare club/shaft storage.

went on ebay and found this awesome old Daiwa staff bag that apparently belonged to Rigo Bringas. the name made me laugh so i bought it.

it never moves out of the storage caddy i made though.

I must be "that guy".   I really enjoy the ease of extracting a club from my bag without shifting, prodding and pulling just to untangle my clubs.   Staff bags are good, my  choice, even one has my name on it.  🙂    Carry bags are the devil, Sunday bags are for 4 club setups.   And I used to play balata's.   I find that 'blades' slide so much easier in and out of a staff bag than any other bag that I won/own.

Carry On!

I use a Sun Mountain 5.5 because I like a 4 way top. This is the largest bag I would ever use, and I really don’t like the weight of this bag. I use it on an electric remote control cart, but it’s heavy walking to and from the parking lot. I would never use a staff bag because of the size and weight. I really don’t care what other people use.

It’s interesting to read the preconceptions of people using staff bags on here. At my club I know of five people with staff bags and all of them are single figure handicappers. None of them have their name on them. Not seen a single hacker using a staff bag.

This has made me think twice about getting the titleist midsize staff bag however. I’m no hacker but I’m also not low single figures. Would be interesting to see if people assumed I was a terrible golfer before playing me however.

I asked a few friends what they thought of me slapping that Titleist staff bag on a Rovic paired up with the Alphard v2 remote and they said it's about as bad as putting iron covers on.

However, I thought to myself, I played with a guy once who used iron covers and while I chuckled under my breath at first, I really and truly didn't care. And why would I?

This poll just confirms that you should do you. Screw the 20%.

Here is a funny problem I have with using a staff bag myself.  Brand obsession.  😄

Ping staff bag?  I'd better have at least some Ping clubs in there.

Titleist staff bag?  If I don't have Titleist clubs, I'd better be playing a Titleist ball.

Etc....

Not attempting to justify this mentality!  It is weird for sure, but it's how I roll.

Does a midsize staff bag even qualify as a staff bag? It just seems like a glorified cart bag to me. If it doesn't have a 12-13" top I don't think people are thinking a poser tour bag. Get the bag you want.

So I think that the big leather staff bags of the past are all but dead since the improvements made on the "Cart Bag". The various logoed bags and the famed C-130 really came into their own and got people away from the big Miller and Burton bags that were strictly staff style cart bags (especially the ones with the plastic for monogrammed inserts). The poser tour bag is big, can fit the refrigerator and kitchen sink, and really stands out as overkill.

This is also my issue. I play ping irons so should I have a ping bag? I know I’m weird but I’ve always matched my bag to my irons since I was a kid.

Only guys in wrx worry about staff bags and what others are playing .  In all my years on the course we only cared about enjoying the day and meeting new people .

There's a difference between "worrying about" what other people are playing/carrying versus simply taking note of other people's equipment choices.

If you love gear enough to post here you have to be at least a little curious how other people choose their equipment and whether or not their selections match the way they play the game.

It's all a big nothing.   Just like it always has been and always will be.  No will care at our funerals if our hats had a logo or not.  The obituaries will say that we were avid golfers.  There will be no mention of our equipment affiliations.

Feel like the ultimate golfWRX power move would be to have a final WITB listed in your obituary 😂
