What’s its main use (tee, off the deck…)? - Off the deck. Occasionally off a tee if the driver is to much club for a particular hole.

Stock TFC soft regular 

Use it off the tee and in the fairway.

 

Nothing has ever beat it out for launch and consistency.

 

All other clubs are regular flex.  The soft regular just makes it even easier to launch.

I stopped carrying a 3 wood years ago.  I find a 5 wood a much better percentage club (for myself).  They manufacture them so forgiving and hot, that the gap between my driver and hybrid is perfect.

PING g425 - 5 wood set to 16.5* - 65x shaft. 

 

All that matters to me is can I hit it as high as possible from the deck and carry it avg 255. If I have to carry it further than that......I'm probably laying up anyway. If I'm laying up off the tee I'm probably hitting DI 90% of the time. Typically when I hit fairway on the tee it's because I'm trying to shape the ball a lot right to left. To be honest though I have spent a lot of time tinkering with fairways - and yet....I can go a solid month without needing to hit one.

I am experimenting with a 5 wood, rather than a 3 wood.  5 woods are hot these days, and easier to elevate of the fairway.  I am finding it more versatile, but need more time with it.

What I love about the ping is it is so easy to hit off the deck it’s silly.  Not my favorite sounding fairway, but a little hot melt and it will be just fine.  For being the max, it has a really nice shape.  Plus I love the matte finish.  Plenty of ball speed!
