Moving to the Triad

Closing for the sale of our current home next Tuesday, and closing on our new home in High Point on 6/9. In just shy of a month the wife, dog and I will be happily leaving NY for good. We're currently members at a private club and will eventually join somewhere down there once we've settled in and had plenty of time to scope things out.

We're going in fairly blind as we don't have friends or family down there. I guess in a roundabout way, I'm looking for recommendations/insight on the important things - courses (public and semi-private), indie golf shops, eats (we love bbq), etc. And if anyone needs a 3rd or 4th to round out a group, let me know.

Looking forward to calling North Carolina home.

Signature!

Oak Hollow in HP is an early Pete Dye course, and a good one. Jamestown Park is a good public course about 15 minutes away. High Point Country Club has a short 9 hole Donald Ross course town, and it’s probably about 15 minutes to their Willow Creek course. That one used to host an LPGA event in the 80s. Sedgefield Country Club is in Greensboro, but not a long drive from HP. The Cardinal is near the airport in Greensboro, and is a really good Pete Dye course. Sweet Old Bill’s on Main St. is a pretty good casual restaurant. Kepley’s BBQ is a few blocks north of SOB’s , and is a good NC BBQ place. It’s been a popular place in HP for a long time.

We have great public golf options. I currently live in greensboro and am a member at Sedgefield if you have any questions. Also best bbq in the Triad area is at black powder smokehouse in jamestown.  I'm a BBQ snob and its some of the best I've ever had.

We will be about 6 miles west of Sedgefield. When I was down 2 months ago meeting with our realtor he took me to Black Powder Smokehouse. Agreed, very tasty and I can still taste the baked beans.

If you're looking for semi private the cardinal is awesome. Great people, great course, and its pretty cheap to bring guests.  No pool or anything like that but it does give you access to the mcconnell golf network which has a bunch of other course you can play.

The Cardinal is in the top spot based on what I've read and seen. Our current club has a pool which I've never used - I just need a good, fun course with good people.

Pretty tough course, but fun. Played it in early spring, and it had some of the best greens I’ve ever played. Have fun.
