Stance: Origin of Hogan barstool analogy? (Research paper)

I am helping a golf instructor write a conference paper on neuroplasticity and the golf swing. Neuroplasticity deals with the concept that the brain develops new behavioral pathways with systematic practice of an activity. Neuroplasticity is popular in both sports training, and in physical therapy for injury victims.

 

One of the paper's themes deals with accuracy and precision, and how fuzzy metaphors and analogies can hurt attainment of these goals.

 

One example is this advice attributed to Hogan: The overall set-up posture of a golfer should "be like setting on the edge of a barstool."

 

I searched through his Five Lessons book. The closest could find, however, was on p. 54: he uses the analogy of "lowering yourself onto a spectator's sports stick." But, I can't find an actual mention of barstool in the book.

 

Do any of you Hogan swingers or golf instructors know the root origin of the barstool analogy? I tried a couple of different search engines, but came up empty. I thought it might be from a Golf Digest article past, but the GD search engine is really primitive.

 

Any help would be appreciated. Paper deadline is June 15.
