For the last three years it was the Cleveland comp. Anybody who knows me, knows that I don't hold on to clubs for that long. I thought for a while it was unreplaceable. Now I have found a driver that I believe will be in my bag for a long time. I am always testing drivers. I was close to replacing my Comp with a G10 but I still kept the Comp. Finally after hitting the new Tour Edge Exotics driver I was blown away. I have never hit the driver so straight and long. It is absolutely amazing.

This one:

With an Apex 4 steel shaft. Best trajectory of any driver I've ever hit. Of course this was back in the days of balata balls.

Honorable mention goes to:

Great Big Bertha 7* (longest driver of the late-balata-ball period)

Big Bertha Warbird 9* (most accurate)

More recently:

Great Big Bertha II 380cc (for accuracy)

Cleveland Launcher 400cc (for length)

Titleist 905 series (I like the T but the R and S are great as well--all are long and workable).

Until this new one.......My best was an Orlamar Hip Ti with a AJ Tech X shaft in it. I hit that thing a MILE and straight as I arrow.

What happened to it?????? I was standing on the 10th tee box at the Walker Course in Clemson SC and my frat brother had a few too many beers in him..he didn't like the verbal jabbing I was giving him about how bad I was winning...he did a full body shove on me and I landed on my driver. The AJ Tech shafts were brittle and it just snapped. The club was NEVER the same again!

My best driver was the TM R5 neutral with Graf. Prolaunch Blue. I hit it the best.

What happened to it?

Well, let's see. I started playing more and more. Then discovered these damn Golf forums (such as this one), then started ho'ing golf clubs because as humans, we can never be satified, even if things are working. Then started actually swapping shafts after spending so much money on a shaft extractor and all the tools. The rest is history.

Sometimes I still think about picking up the TM R5 when the Ft-i isn't working. I know what your thinking, FT-i, fairway finder!!! Quit golf if you can't hit it straight!!! but sometimes, the golf club and swing feel so alien to me. Especially sucks living in the city where Chelsea Piers charges around $25 for a bucket of balls. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!

Rant over.

My current TM Tour Burner TP w/Diamana whiteboard. It replaced my TM R5 9.5* w/Aldila NV 65s, which I had played for four seasons and really loved, but like many others on this site I became a ho.

Had a Cleveland Launcher 400 8.5* with that funky gold shaft (I think it was a Fujikura). That thing went a mile, until it started going a mile into the trees left, so it had used up its usefulness. Of course I blamed the duck hooks on the club! Doesn't everyone?

Current driver should stay in the bag for a while, but haven't we all said that!?

Currently gaming the best Driver i've ever owned. The 9015D with a Cinnamon 65X shaft.

Close second is a 975D with Harrison 1.8 X flex from back in the day.

I could hit the 975D further, but I am more consistent with the 9015D.

G430 Max 10K

HiBore 2w “Unicorn”

G410 3w & 3h

ZX7 MKII 4-A

Glide 4.0 54 & 58

Jailbird 380

The longest driver I've ever hit- a buddy's Cleveland Launcher 400 9.5* with a stiff Fuji Vista Tour 70. It was tipped or something and weighted- either way it almost swung itself. I had swing out of my shoes to get anything out of it- but it sure worked great for the 2 rounds I used it. 3 of the 5 longest drives I've hit were with it- and another one of the longest was with a Launcher 330.

The best however is probably the Adams 460 Dual with a tipped R fles Fuji Vista Tour 60. It's definitely the straightest- haven't poked one in another fairway or out of bounds with it yet.

**ADDITION**

Due to a minor mishap, the Adams 460 Dual with a tipped R flex FujiVT60 is now out of action- busted shaft.

Hopefully, NO, not hopefully, I fully expect the next driver I pick up to be the best one! I might just reshaft the Adams with a shaft with higher kick- that Launcher 400 combo with FujiVT was a high spin head low spin shaft- the Adams is a low spin head low spin shaft and I just didn't get the distance I wanted out of it. The Adams will probably get a V2 or a ProLaunch Platinum.

Either way, I have $300 in credit at Golfsmith and hope to find a new Magic Driver there. First up in the search will be the Cleveland HiBore series. Another option is reshafting a Launcher 460 I have in the closet- it wasn't quite an updated Launcher 330 as I had hoped.

It's funny to see to this thread revived and to read what I wrote a year later. I've come to the conclusion that whatever driver I hit really really well will eventually turn problematic because I will ask it to DO MORE . . . fly a little farther, turn a little more, run out more, etc. And then the magic slowly dissipates as I start looking for something else that may do a little more.

My magic/best driver is the Adams XTD Pro 9.5* GD YSQ stiff that I have right now (since June 2008 or so). It stays on the course . . . that is magical for me off the tee! It hasn't produced the longest single drive but has produced the highest average drives for me. And since I decided to spend the majority of my golf money on actually playing . . . there isn't room for much change/testing of equipment this year.

Without a doubt my current driver - a 9 degree FT-5 with Fubuki 63 stiff. Long, forgiving, and workable. I'll always have a soft spot (and will never sell) for my Ping Tisi Tec 8.5 though. My wife's hitting it right now until we find her a new driver so it's still in good use. Although shafts have improved, I think that head is just as hot as a lot of the present day drivers.
