Bummer... Will PGA ever come back to NYC? Unless you count Traveler's.. no tournament in NYC area again.

That area had the 2018 and 2020 US Open, and has the 2025 Ryder Cup, the 2026 US Open, and the 2029 PGA Championship coming up.

Not saying they'll never have a regular tour stop near NYC again, but when you have that many very high level events all within about 100 miles of each other you can get away with not making it an annual thing.

pretty solid ideas there ... not sure i'd remove fedex pts from all tournaments, though they should reflect strength of field like the ogwr points ...

one thing that is clear, as many of us have stated ... monahan is not the captain for these waters ...

I think the elevated events make sense and are pretty solid choices.

I saw today that the Tour highlighted the fact that the additional events chosen: WM Phoenix, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo and Travelers represent some of the longest running tournaments/courses that have hosted tournaments for the longest on tour.  I think it is smart of the tour to highlight that.

It's also INCREDIBLY smart that these elevated events will rotate.  There are, I think, 20 events that were not included in the original "elevated" events schedule.  So every ~five years a tournament can reasonably expect to have all of the best players in the world there.  You might say that hurts them every year they aren't there...but right now those tournaments have ZERO shot of getting the top 20-40 players there for any year so I think this is better overall.  I also think the non-elevated tournaments will become even more important for new star making.  Tom Kim winning the Wyhndam, Spieth winning the John Deere.  It's quite clear that the KFT grads can f****** play and they will really have a chance to shine at these events IMO.  Maybe that's boring for Average Joe TV Watcher but I personally love watching young guys try to break through.

I saw some criticism that the RBC is right after the Masters and the Travelers is right after the US Open.  I just think that the tour has no choice.  For one thing if the schedule is going to rotate then the tournaments right before or after the majors will get picked at some point so they might as well just make it a thing now.  For another the tournaments before/after were always in a tricky spot since the top players have their own way of prepping for majors.  This gives those tournaments a lot more punch.

Plenty of sponsors waiting in the wings. Sponsors love associating themselves with the PGATOUR. Nobody finds them like Jay Monahan.....that's where he excels.

Jay's only job is to make $$$ for the PGATOUR. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone that does it better.

Pending global recession.

This is not a political statement but an observation on economic climate in regards to political stability, economies and markets thrive in times of political stability.  Economies react negatively to potential unknown.  Stasis and status quo are good things financially.

Ya, ughhhh what? What great sponsor has Jay hauled in that wasn't already at the Tour when he took over for Finchem. Also the Tour has a whole department that is dedicated to landing new corporate sponsors or Title Sponsors for tournaments. Also Honda, the longest running title sponsor the Tour had just said bye bye after 2023. I'm sure they'll find another replacement but it doesn't look good to a lot of these tournaments when youre not one of the "elevated" events. I'm sure those conversations aren't fun.

You obviously don't know that Monahan has been with the Pgatour since 2008 and the deputy Commissioner while working with Tim Finchem. During his tenure As Commissioner Monahan has announced many new sponsors during golf telecast since 2017.

From what I understand the elevated events will rotate.

Common sense would dictate that Monahan has negotiated all extensions for the PGATOUR and will continue to do so in the future.

Most recent PGATOUR partner is POINTSBET. Surely the secretary didn't broker that deal.

Ya thanks but I was aware of that.

Like I said, a majority of sponsors have been with the Tour for over a decade. If your one example is Pointsbet (which I highly doubt he had any hand in bringing on) thats a pretty weak one, considering the Tour has several betting operator partners and all of them likely begged the Tour to be an official partner. Like I said in my first post, the Tour has a dedicated department to find new sponsors. It's not 1 person and especially not the commissioner making those calls. He has better things to do/worry about.

Well, feel free to tell everyone who broker these deals besides Monahan,  so we can give them the credit they so richly deserve.

PGAtour partners and sponsors:

Amazon 2021

Aon 2018

Korn Ferry 2019

Comcast  2020

Velocity Global 2021

Just to name a few, I could go on. Man, those secretaries sure have been busy brokering those deals while Jay sits back and take all the credit.

I'm not even gonna get into it but jesus man what are you Jays nephew or something? Based on your comment history, it's like you're getting a cut of these deals.

No, I'm just thorough with my research before tearing down the person responsible for the PGATOURS recent success. Your alternative facts need calling out.

Slamming Jay Monahan seems to be the latest talking point.

"The Tours recent success" wtf are you talking about dude? They've been growing since Tiger came on in 96'? Jay hasn't "grown" anything. Ya, keep saying anything that doesn't support your narrative is "alternative facts"?! lol .... No one is slamming Jay, you're just overly defending him, it's weird. Since you brought it up, it'll be funny when there's a regime change because of how badly the LIV situation has been handled. But ya, god bless those new sponsors

The "Lost" Fall -

Honestly, I hope this push by the organizers of the Houston Open (and going to a calendar year schedule) kills the post TOUR Championship Fall events.  Go back to the finale in Oct and make the Fall events mean something for the calendar season.  Right now, the Fall 2023 will not mean anything for any season.  Sponsors are paying too much these days for that!

Per Cameron Jourdan:

The fall slate will reportedly begin in Napa, California, at the Fortinet Championship, Sept. 14-17. Then there would be two weeks off, which includes the Ryder Cup in Rome.

The Sanderson Farms Championship would be Oct. 5-8, with the Shriners Children’s Open (Oct. 12-15) in Las Vegas and Zozo Championship (Oct. 19-22) in Japan.

The World Wide Technology Championship is slated for Nov. 2-5, though it’s unclear where it will be played. Mayakoba’s El Cameleon Golf Club has hosted the tournament in recent years but in 2023 is hosting a LIV Golf League event February 2023. The PGA Tour’s fall slate would conclude with the Bermuda Championship (Nov. 9-12) and RSM Classic (Nov. 16-19).
