Can someone explain this

Recommended Posts

I received this warning:

1452384515_Screenshot(11).png.3b859d95721bccb69f0fa4435e39fde5.png

I read the guidelines section and there is no explanation of what the 'points' are.

I don't understand what the expiration date means.

I also don't understand why there is no explanation of what I wrote that was considered off topic. Really, there are GIF's of the Simpsons in that topic.

Please explain.

You were given a 1 point warning as stated for calling out the mods as disingenuous. 1 point is a warning and shows on your account til the date indicated.  Next one is a suspension of account privileges. subsequent warnings will warrant more severe punishments.

As stated many times, moderators have final determination of warnings and all appeal processes are through them. If they chose to explain more in depth then they can or may choose not too. The best way to contact them is posting here and sending a pm to gwrxmod.

You might consider a point to be a slap on the wrist. 1 slap is a warning. Next slap would likely be a suspension for a short(?) period of time (1 day ?, a week ? a month ?).

More slaps/points = more and longer suspensions,,,,,,,,,, until you're asked to leave.

Not sure what's so hard to understand about the expiration date of the point. You were given a warning point that "expires on 6/8/2023". On 6/8/2023 a point will be removed/deducted. If you get no more points by then you'll be back to zero.

And there IS an explanation. "Off topic attack on the forum moderation again". I don't know what you wrote but it sounds pretty clear to me.

I hadn't been here for about a week, and when I visited, one of my topics had vanished. I have no idea what happened. Call me crazy, but if a topic you started is zapped by mods, wouldn't you expect some type of explanation?

Currently, all my posts need to be approved by whatever mod is on duty. Wouldn't that extend to all other posters so that the topic remains active?

Could some mod explain this?

nsx, that one point is the point. there is nothing i've read here that details any point structure where action is taken. On the points, just tell us how many until we're booted. Playing games like this is why I had one of your points.

You will be issued warnings and if adverse actions are warranted, they will be contained in the warning.

1st warning is usually no adverse action. All further ones after that will usually have some penalty.

Any further clarification must be directed to gwrxmod as all their decisions are final.

The most astute approach is to not post or ask a mod if there is any question regarding subject matter. This is a moderated forum and it’s up to the mods to keep order.

Go read the forum rules a few times. When you are posting in a topic that has big bold letters saying ***TOPIC MODERATED***, make sure you follow the rules. It really isn't that hard. Getting booted from here is like getting booted from a union job, you really have to try hard or be very special for that to happen.

This does not explain why a topic of mine was deleted.

Umm, I DID follow the rules. Personal biases led to my warning.

Consider that my warning was for writing about the political connection between the U.S. and SA in the LIV topic. The warning was for being off topic.

Huh? There are people posting pictures and gif's of Caddyshack and the Simpsons, but I'm off topic?

The warning sent to you is very specific on content and reason. As for why your post did not get approve or deleted then it did not pass moderation review. If you would like to use the term bias in terms with how the board is moderated, then you would not be wrong. Every moderation decision contains some bias.

The only thing these topics point out is the reason why we do not generally allow political talk. There are never reasonable discussions.

It is virtually impossible to keep every post ON topic. Threads bob and weave and often go to a completely different topic.

But the mods typically don't get involved in such threads unless somebody complains (reports).

Politics and religion are verboten. 99 or more per cent of the time they get too heated and personal - so, the rule is simply "No posts about politics or religion".

Anyway, LIV vs. PGA Tour. Topic is (was ?) moderated; that is, every post went to "pre-mod" (for a while anyway). That means that every post is read by a mod and then approved. It then shows up in the thread.

Now I get it's a fine line, talking about LIV vs. PGA Tour with the Saudi connection TO LIV, but talking about the USA/Saudi connection you mention sounds pretty political to m.

So I'm guessing the mod may have written "off topic" when he/she simply meant "no politics". Dunno1.gif

Generally. Interesting. The liv topic cannot be discussed reasonably without mentioning politics at times. The quick trigger to mute or zap posts is a knee-jerk reaction where there could be discussion. For instance, this and the moderation topic have led to messages from others that are 180° from my political views. They wrote saying they disagree with the moderation and deletion of posts. I know you know this. So, why be so discerning and drawing an imaginary line? Have you and other mods considered the opposite of how you might moderate a topic such as liv?

Also, why are my posts still needing approval a month after my *warning*? I'm in my 50's, and you treat me like a child in a time out. Has it occurred to you folks that I could create another account in about a minute?

Stop treating us as children.

Yes, there is an ebb and flow with most conversations. Maybe it is the reporting you mentioned that resulted in every post now needing approval. If that is the issue, those people need a life.

The politics here is a funny thing. As you cited, the U.S.-SA connection is there for everyone to see (if they care to know). To not mention it is a big elephant in the room, in my opinion. I think it is completely relevant when others mention 9-11. I know of none of those posts being deleted. A few mentioned the hijackers and those posts seemed to be fine.
