Curtis cup 2022

How come no thread about the Curtis Cup?  First time watching it and was definitely a fan. A few of my friends went to Merion to watch and met Rose and Rachel H. Said they were the nicest people and took pictures and chatted with people. I’m glad how both and the girls from US and GB&I focused on growing the game for younger girls. That’s how it’s done by getting the exposure and focusing on the next generation. What did others think?  I am curious what length did they play Merion. A few of the par 4s seemed liked the tees were from neighboring fairways.

Disappointed GB & I fan here.  I enjoyed the match and thought it was a tough test.  It was played in a really good spirit.

 

I just watched the No Laying Up feature on the Stanford Women’s team so it was great to see Rachel Heck and Rose Zhang, even if they beat us! Not enough coverage of local girl Annabel Fuller (she represented Surrey and my daughters are both in the development squad!).

 

Played in a really nice spirit and the laughter when Rachel Heck had to play the ball on the edge of the bunker with one foot in it was very refreshing.

The course looked amazing and I enjoyed watching the tournament. But would love to see the GB&I expanded, whether this would be including europe or rest of the world. Would make the tournament a more interesting watch. The atmosphere and attitude of the players were exemplary so that centainly contributed positively to the experience.

There’s another amateur tournament coming up in Europe that matches guys and gals together from the US against Europe, I believe. I read 5 of the US girls will be on the squad and 2 of the GB&I.

Great event and really enjoyable to watch.  Result was more uneven than the match (at least for the first two days, I'm currently watching the singles) -- GB&I just didn't close strong in most of their matches.

 

A lot of the GB&I players were familiar since most of them were on the team last time (plus a little bit from college golf) and that was a bonus.

 

Merion was amazing.  Great venue for the women.  

 

Every time I hear Rose Zhang speak I'm more impressed by her.  No prima donna in her, really that seems to be true of most if not all of the participants.

Was there on Saturday and was one of the fortunate ones above to meet Rachel and Rose. Phenomenal ladies and so down to earth - was very refreshing to see. Always been a fan of women's golf, and this event put me over the top. The golf itself was amazing - so much talent and composure. It was like being back in the early days of the game walking down the fairway and being inches from the competitors. I was so overwhelmed with the event and atmosphere that I dragged my dad back down on Sunday to watch and experience it. Coolest thing on Sunday was on the 9th tee. There was a wait and we were following Heck - she went over and chatted up this group of younger girls. One commented on Heck's face paint/glitter - next thing you know, Rachel was calling for a team assistant to bring her some glitter so she could put it on them to be like her. It was like the golf came second and the growing the game and experience was the priority. Very, very cool to see...

 

Been to multiple US Opens, few tour events, and Masters. Outside of the Masters, I would choose attending an event like the Curtis Cup 10/10. So much more intimate, crowds were respectful, nobody overindulging to the tune of "mashed potatoes" or "baba booey..." Just great competition in the perfect atmosphere. On the subject of beer, they did have two of the local breweries make special releases for this event - Merion IPA and Red Wicker Red Ale. The IPA had the Wicker encrested on it and the Red Wicker can label was an awesome color photo of the quarry holes (I believe - it's still in my fridge). Kept the cans as momentos as cool as they were. 

 

I'd say they played the course around 6400-6500. Maybe a little bit shorter. They played the par 5s back, the 4s up a tee, and the 3s up two tees usually. If you ever have the chance, definitely find your way to one of these. The game is in good hands with Heck, Zhang, Ganne, and Co...

The Curtis Cup was so much better to watch than the LIV. Great golf and wonderful attitudes. The women were playing for the love of the game, not the love of the money.
