You have cut open a Titleist and unraveled the rubber band.

Metal spikes.

You remember when Jack was fat.

Five woods were unheard of.

Woods were wood.

Iron sets were 2-9.

 

What else do you guys have?

I remember playing with Titleist Professional 100s.  You could spin those things like crazy and you could split them open just as easily.

Wow......you are a big hitter.  My "long iron" is a 7.  Gave up on vanity and put hybrids/FWs in the bag for everything else.  

 

Had a 40-something make a comment about the number of headcovers in my back.  He apologized after I dropped a 74 on him from the mid-tees.

My first set of men's clubs (my parents bought them) were Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge blades, 3-5-7-9 irons,  matching 1-3-5 woods, and a putter.   The woods and irons had the flat "reminder" grip at the top. 

 

Played balata balls, but they were expensive and cut easily.  As a kid learning the game, played some of the first TopFlites, they were indestructible, played them until I lost them....

 

Now need Bifocals to see the ball clearly and read the scorecard.......

I will add another one, if you ever putted with a new Bullseye putter.  First club I ever bought with my own money (got it from caddying) was a Bullseye.

So now I'm curious, were they new and all the rage back in the 80's when they would've been made, and your comment refers to way back before that, or was I just "lucky" to get what was then a new/novelty club?

My main one was a beauty, it was a deep, dark shiny-ish blue. A Wilson if I'm not misremembering.

I will add another one, if you ever putted with a new Bullseye putter.  First club I ever bought with my own money (got it from caddying) was a Bullseye. 

I still have my Old Standard. Got it from my Step Father in 1977.

To my knowledge, 5 woods became common in the 80s.

Before that most wood sets were 1, 3, and 4.

I carry a driver, 3 wood, and 3, 4, and 5 hybrids.

Hybrids are the greatest invention since Air Conditioning.

I still have my first one, bought it in about 74/75, straight up plain Standard model.   I have two others, one I bought in the mid 1980s with a flange, and one I picked one up out of a lost club bin in about 1983, it was all beat up then, had to be from the early 1960s, it was my go to putter from about 1984 until about 2000......it has a bit of offset and is very upright.

I wasn't allowed to play those until I was buying them myself. My Dad would buy me the DT Wound 90. Those sucked soooooo bad. Whenever I found a Professional in the woods I felt like I had won the lottery.

I feel this so bad... My first irons we hand me down Wilson Staff Dynapower blades (1-PW) and a JP56 SW with the black and green Golf Pride Victory Grips (remember those)

You have to calculate before you tee off on number 1,  whether you'll need more Tylenol before the end of the round.

 

My irons start at 8.  I play hybrids through a 31* 7 hybrid.  I get lots of weird looks when I pull a hybrid from 150.  They don't realize it's a 31* 7.

First set was Royal Scot Gorman clubs. 1,  3  woods and 3, 5, 7, 9, and putter. Old green Golf Pride grips. Used to clean the woods and polish with car wax. 

Wore plaid flared slacks and that Munsingwear shirt. Did have a nice pair of leather FJ monk strap shoe. Wish I had those today. 

 

Played the Acushnet Club golf ball. And then Top Flite surlyn that felt like a rock. Memories!

You KNOW you're old when you remember Titleist "red' and Titleist black balls. Wing tip black and white shoes with kilties (like Jack wore). Cigarette butts all over the tee boxes. No golf carts anywhere, but pull trolley rentals for 25 cents. Aluminum shafts (pure crap). Haig Ultras being the high end sticks by far. Leather and cloth bags. Lots of 2 woods being used as drivers..........
