Question about Ping dots on irons and Ping g400max driver

I know that the dots refer to lie angle and all that.  But, does it matter that much?  I was fitted for red dots, but I bought black from a guy.  I know ping will bend them to the correct dot (lie angle), for a small fee.  Just wondering if it’s worth doing?  Also there a weight on the back of my Ping g400max driver.  What is that weight for, and can it be changer?  What would happen if the weight was changed?

You could always try them and see.  Lie does matter and can affect the direction of the ball.  Too upright or too flat could cause the ball to start offline.  The weight in the back can be changed.  Going heavier will increase the swingweight and might increase forgiveness, height, and spin a little.  Going lighter is the opposite.  Of course height and spin will vary more based on how you swing, descending or ascending.  Your driver is a very forgiving one and a great choice.

I’d swing’em and see how you do as it sounds like the difference is 1 degree. Swings change over time too as you try to improve so the needed lie can change. The hard part will just be the mental aspect of knowing it’s 1 degree different!

If you’re only one colour code out, so in your case you were fit for red but took black, you could probably get away with it. If you were using blue or brown dot with your fitting of red dot though, you may struggle. I can play either blue or black dot with no issues, but move me to green dot and I struggle.

if you find it's going left, try gripping down half an inch. 

Ping will adjust it for free, but if you have an offseason where you live, I'd send it then. It takes months to get them back.

I was fit for red through ping originally but found black dot clubs locally and played them for a season.  I played fine with them and my swing changed a bit to fit them, but like said above, If you have a consistent miss, I’d send them in in the off-season.

Or you could take them to any golf store that has a loft and lie machine.

PGASS, Golf Galaxy, etc.

Ping can be bent 1-2°

I would take them to a reputable club repair shop to check loft and lie numbers. These numbers change as the more they're used and as they age. Bending them to agreed upon specs, maybe throw on some new grips, should be done in a day.

Just to add I think ping will amend the dot colour for just postage costs. That’s what a friend paid when he bought some second hand pings and got them re-fit to his swing. Think it was £15 postage.

I called ping recently. I think the cost for a set to have adjusted was round $30 plus $20 for return shipping. I think it would cost around $75 total including shipping to them to get your irons adjusted by ping. Probably worth it in the long run if you are wanting to get them adjusted. Personally. I think 1 color code either way is ok. I'm a red dot, but I play black or orange without much issue. YMMV
