I would imagine they would want to add drainage to the hole to help prevent the unwanted 'organic matter' balls, but, even though that looks like what they're doing, the drainage is going in like 150 yards past where drives normally land. Does that make sense to anyone else?

Lengthening the hole also makes even more sense if it is going to play more firm. May honestly make the hole easier, though. It may go from a hard hook off the tee to a lazy draw. Sad.

I think in Georgia it’s pickled peach.

Side note. I’ve often wondered if pickeled peaches is just a SC / GA thing ?  We eat them with beans.  And cornbread.  They’re quite sour and yet very good.  Any other parts of the country make those ?

Speaking of peaches, not just the pickeled variety, Colorado has some really outstanding peaches from Palisades, CO that are ready in July.  While I have had Georgia peaches, I personally feel that the Palisades peaches are probably the best peaches I have eaten.  Something about the desert climate and soil there that produces terrific crops.  Grapes are also terrific as there are several very good wineries in the Grand Junction/Palisades area.

I had the same thought.  I’m a good mind to drive down tonight and see if they have guards there 24/7.  Only way I’m getting in it looks like.

It appears to be fencing rather than a wall. If you zoom in, you can see the trees and bushes through it.

Is the road Yorkshire Drive? Because this shot from Google Maps suggests it might be difficult to drive to that particular part of the course. Not sure when the aerial photo was taken, though.

Hmm. Wonder what variety of peach it is ?   Is the flesh white or yellow ? You’re correct. Soil matters.  We have red clay soil that’s very high in nitrogen but low in calcium.  So it’s acidic.  Which certain grapes and peaches love. We tune the ph some with adding Lyme. If it gets too acidic.  Also great for growing beets.  Lol.

the best here are what we call “ Georgia bells”.  But you’ll find called “ bell of Georgia “ online.   They’re a white fleshed peach. They command Nearly  double price of a yellow peach here.     I have an orchard adjoining my back property line.  You’d be shocked how many they let drop to the ground and don’t pick up.  I’ll gather from the ground When in season , I don’t see that as theft since they threw them away.  Pie tastes the same !  Lol.

also little known fact for the rest of the world. Georgia gets all the peach credit. While upstate South Carolina  grows and grew more than all of Georgia in the peach hey day of the 1930s to 1970s.  The house I live in was once part of a 1100 acre peach operation.  With a railroad spur coming out to load peaches on box cars headed north.  The largest “packing house”  still stands about a half mile from me.  Right on the train tracks.  You’re sorry you mentioned it now. Lol.

There is an old water tower near Gaffney, SC painted like a peach. It's just off Interstate 85. It's called the "Peachoid" by the locals.

Yep. I’m about 25 min west of it.  We also call it the big butt.  Lol. But you have to see it at the right angle.  Used to be a fatz restaurant near it.  And you could sit and look out the window at the full moon.  Yes.  It’s actually shaped Like a peach too. 😂

Not sure of the exact soil content in western Colorado but here’s a picture of the Palisade Peaches.   Flesh is yellow.

They do look nice.  In my experience the darker the dark section on the outside - the sweeter they taste.

i personally like a yellow peach too if they’re small and sweat.  Like those. You’ll see commercial places grow some huge yellow peaches. Sometimes the size of a large orange or small grapefruit…. Those usually have less taste.  And I think are often meant for baby food.  That’s where most peaches that don’t make the A grade go anyway.  Into bins and onto trains to be sent to be puréed or juiced.

and that’s been fun with 🍑 peaches !

Some of us said from the beginning that they would likely change the contours on the corner if they moved the tee back. The more you go back, it’s harder to cut the corner. It becomes a straighter tee shot. I would look for it be be flatter, but not flat. Perhaps a mound on the far right side and a more gradual slope. Previously, from 240, the ball would be considerably above your feet (for a right-handed player) forcing a draw/hook. Which means breaking Jack’s rule of aiming at trouble (creek to right of green). This is why almost everyone laid up if you were way back. We’ll see. They should make the tee box 40 yards long in order to adjust for daily conditions. This tee shot is 320 yards, and the second shot 240.

I'm from NC, and have lived in SC, FL, and VA and I've never heard of pickled peaches before.  🙂

I thought I read they were taking it to 530 from 510….not 560.  With the slope they’re hitting into at 560 at least half the field would be forced to lay up.  The old guys would have to hit a tee shot…chip up to the corner….lay up….on in 4.

Maybe you’re right. I was going off of the photos in the first post. But maybe that will be another building/palace, and not the tee box?

And when its closed, dont they remove the grass and replace it each year? Could be wrong but I thought that's what they had said

They don't remove the grass.  It's all overseeded with ryegrass so it dies in the summer heat, then they reseed in the fall every year.  Ryegrass sprouts very quickly and stays perfect Fall through Spring.

We have then in Georgia but we only sell them to yankees.

I saw a cool show on PBS once about how the Dalton carpet and South GA pecan industries sprung up from roadside vendors along the old Dixie Highway. The first vendors were poor farmers who were just trying to get an extra buck or two from people driving toward Florida.

There is a musical artist named Peaches that is fairly well known. Has a NSFW song title and video about pain that if I posted it here I would get a BSG style suspension until 2333 LOL! 🤣

She (Peaches) was at one time an opening act for a NIN/Bauhaus tour in the mid 2000's and actually put on a great set. Find the song/video on you tube at you own peril... 😄😄😂
