Replaced my wedges with (then) shiny new fourteen raw rm-4s in a 50-54-58 setup to replace my trusty 50 (vokey sm), 55.5 (eye2 becu), 61 (Chip Usher ground raw K-grind) setup that I had been using.

still have the 50 and 54 in bag and love them. However, two nights ago I subbed out the 58 RM-4 for the 61 K-grind (which has both let me down and given me chip-ins) and hit some of the best greenside shots I’ve hit in awhile. One of these involved chipping one over a bunker up a hill and stopping at the beginning of a downslopes green so that it would roll 100 feet across the green and nestle 4 feet from the hole.

perfect for missing the putt lol

Recently out of frustration I put an old Tour Edge Exotics combo brazing 3w back in the bag.  My struggle with FWs off the deck has been ongoing for years, I’ve tried at least a dozen different combos and nothing.  So tired of hitting a great drive on a par 5 and not being able to attack the green because I can’t hit a 3/4 wood off the deck.

Enter the TEE, had it for maybe 15 years,  whenever it came out.  Has an old Grafalloy Comp NT 85 shaft in it and I don’t know why I ever took it out of the bag.  I hit it better than any fairway I’ve tried in the last 2 years.  Anyway, it’s back in the bag for this season and the Stealth 3 wood o have on the way is likely to be returned.  Go figure!

Got tired of skulling shots out of thin sand bunkers with concrete type hard pan under the sand that my course seems to favor. 🙄

Remembered a old very low bounce lob wedge in like new condition that I had in the garage. Problem solved.

I recently found myself on the verge of buying a new 22 degree hybrid.  I had been playing a 19 degree hybrid for awhile but added a 5 wood and the gapping was no longer working.  I hate buying hybrids.  It’s just not as fun as spending money on an overpriced driver or irons or whatever.  But I needed a 22 degree hybrid.  I had a nagging feeling there was an option I was overlooking.  Sure enough, after a little digging around, I had an og Sim 22 degree hybrid in hand and could spend that money on yet another putter…the sim hybrid has been money

Two 7 woods and a Callaway UW later, I’m back to my Callaway XR Pro 21° hybrid. I couldn’t be happier, knocked it to 20’ from 226 yesterday.

GolfWRX is many things.

1. A place for gearheads to talk equipment

2. A place to find out about equipment early

3. A place to get great club fitting advice from Stuart, Val, and Howard.

4. A support system

@MtlJeff has come here for support and I for one will offer that support.  He only mentioned wedges, so I will leave out the pics of my 5 four irons, my 7 wood, my UW. my four sets of irons, my ZXU 2 iron, and my 15+ putters.

I submit picture 1A into evidence, why so many wedges?  Well for one, I play them long and port the back of them to remove weight, not many folks want ported wedges.  Some are ones I designed with a Chinese company while I was still making putters, one you can see with a ton of rust(that was the one I really ground on and sent back to them for the grind I wanted on my 56's) some are old, some are newer.  The lofts go from 50, 52,54,56, 60.

Like many of us, i buy and sell clubs like a fortune 500 company buys and sells people.....it makes sense to keep a clean inventory to avoid otherwise becoming a hoarder, i mean we all have wives who at times are like "Why do you need 400 golf clubs in a room with a padlock on it"

I'll tell you why.

My golf course is going through a comically cheap phase due to a few factors, and has stopped maintaining bunkers , and also letting the rough grow to proportions that would give Mike Davis an erection , due to "unavailability of grass cutting machines" .

MtlJeff has been struggling with his short game this year. Weird bunker lies, buried lies in the rough. The type of stuff that a conventional wedge cannot handle. But, recently i had an epiphany---As i rained blows on my greenskeeper after another disappointing round, i thought "there must be another way!"

Enter the Glide 3.0 Eye 2 wedge. A relic of my bag room, with a leading edge as razor sharp as Mtljeff's comic wit. I've played it the last few rounds and man, it is PERFECT for these conditions. Cuts through thick rough, and very versatile in traps--perfect for my course in 2022

Don't trade in your old clubs, especially the specialty ones. You NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL NEED THEM!

LOL you guys are discovering what I have known for years and there in lies the problem. I never get rid of anything. I still have clubs I had 50 years ago. Never know when you may need something you hit 50 years ago. Recently I dragged out a Hogan "Special PI" that I played back in the 80s. One of the good things being old retired and do not play comps or keep a stipulated handicap any more  is the fact I can play what I darn well please regardless of what the USGA says. My wife is a saint as in she never says anything about my stuff even though I will admit it has gotten out of hand. Yep keep the old stuff you never know when you will have to back up and punt

Ditto here.  When I go play a new course or even one I don't play often, it looks like I'm shopping in the produce section.  I take one of my many bags and go scrounging through the club selection pulling what I think will fit that track.  The corner of my garage looks like a museum of the last 30 ish years of club design.

second swing's value just dropped.

I found, yesterday, in my garage a ping glide 2 stealth @54° With the eye two sole.  Played well with it yesterday

wondering today as the course will be wet and slightly fat with eye2 sole becomes a huge divot with the ball twenty yards short.   Would be nice to have a few more options.

It's tough to justify buying "new" (I buy a lot of used gear) when I have old that have value. Sometimes that value is more than I paid, so I am stimulating the economy.

I can see where you and I would get along fine because I am the same way. I have been known to do the very same thing and I have also told others on here and the other site I go on. If one gets in this area and does not have clubs to play with hit me up. Come grab a empty bag and go to loading. I do have a couple of what I call modern sets with like 10 year old CBs but 99% of my stuff is old blades.

Yep I have a staff bag full of wedges I have ground and some I messed up. Rust for me no problem in fact I prefer them that way. The one on the far right would be right up my alley rust wise. Then there is the other staff bag with wedges I will play in the drop of a hat and I will admit mostly old 588s and 900s with some Wilson JPs mixed in
