Edel Wedge Grind help

Recommended Posts

Hello!!!

you guys have been going on about Edel wedges and I’ve decided to give up all my Vokeys and go Edel. Currently gaming P790s and wanting wedges 50 56 and 60 but not sure of grind.

i have a pretty shallow to normal divot. Can’t figure out what I should use for each loft. What have you guys had luck with?

(I realize it can be personal but trying to gain knowledge at the moment)

I have vokeys from 48, 50, 52, 54, 58 (I know, I was trying to figure out what worked).

prefer a 50.08 56.10 or 12 and a 60.10

The obvious answer is to get fitted.  Your current Vokeys may not be the best fit for your game, and you might be modifying your swing to make them work as best as you can. So to get the Edel equivalent of the Vokey grind you currently play may not be the best decision.  Plus the location of the weights (one is heavier than the other 2) makes a big difference.  You could just experiment - many people remark how obvious it was when the put the weight in the "best" position - but a fitting would be best.

But if fitting is not an option, the next question would be what grind(s) are you now playing in your Vokey's?  That will impact what you should look at with Edel.  And I would think about how you use your wedges, because you may want different grinds for different lofts.

The following is not a hard-and-fast rule, but seems to apply for most golfers.  From most shallow to most steep, the Edel grinds are C - T - V  - D in that order.

I can be a digger at times and the 48* V-grind has been the best club in my bag since I put it in play.  Also added a 60* T, giving me some versatility on touch shots.  Have a 54* D on order from Club Champion that should be here soon.

Hope this helps, and good luck

That helps out a lot!! 50.10 56.12 and a 60.08 equivalent would be what I’m looking for.

50 for full shots to chips around the green.

56 for most sand shots and tight lies

60 is a club I’m still figuring out. Debating on just going with the first two while I get more used to my 60 hi toe.

@captwilks67, what grinds are you playing in your Vokeys? I.e. M, S, K, etc.

Currently approach wedge is a 48.10F and I love that for full shots, if I could just stop hitting it to the right. Love that club.

52.12F. This is great around the green when I’m chipping and doing flop shots but beyond that I dig and find it a hard time to hit full shots.

my 56.10 hi toe is awesome in sand and around the green.

my 60.10 is also great around the green, but I’m still getting used to that club.

in my mind, I can’t decide if I should go 50, 54, 58

or 50,56,60

i have a feeling the former will be more effective.

i also notice I am a sweeper on chip shots and half shots but get more aggressive as the shots get more full.

Strongly urge you to get fitted.  What you (or I, or anyone else on this site) think you should get is nowhere near the detailed expertise you'll get from a proper fitting.

That being said, it wouldnt surprise me to see them fit you to a C grind on your highest lofted wedge. V grind for your lowest lofted.  But have no idea on the middle wedge that you'll likely use for sand shots.

Really good to know. That’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
