How helpful is a fitting early in golf career?

Hello!

I have a club fitting today at 3:30 though I am wondering if I am wasting my money preemptively. I haven’t broken 100 yet and I would like to get Edel Wedges, but I am worried I am not going to find the most effective use out of my 100 bucks by going ahead and doing a fitting.

i am curious of everyone’s thoughts? Should I go to the fitting? Or should I keep playing with what I got and get better?

You're going to get opinions on both sides ... some will say you can't get a repeatable swing until you get equipment that suits you. I would argue that until you have a repeatable swing, it doesn't make any sense to get fit. Basically, chicken vs. egg argument (it was the chicken, BTW).

Ahh interesting. I honestly just wanted help on grinds and lie, for the Edel wedges. I have no clue what’s going to help me other than more lessons which is expensive.

You’ll learn something from the fitting about your consistency, swing speed, strike pattern. The grinds are pretty forgiving on Edel besides maybe the C grind, so why not try them? I have two and they are very nice.

Ideally, I would say 5 lessons first and then do a fitting if you feel like it. Much more important to get the fundamentals down and go from there. In the meantime, barring a lot of height or lack of height, I’d just play standard equipment. I’ve been playing for a long time and have proven to myself that working with a teaching

pro for an extended period of time beats equipment and it’s not even comparable.  I would say if you want to really improve find a good teaching match, too. You can learn quite a bit from the best on YouTube as well.

I mean no offense, but I would absolutely buy a couple of short game lessons before getting fit for wedges.  If you haven't broken 100, you probably don't even know how to play short shots, much less what wedge grind might suit you. I know I sure didn't at that point in my golf life. I probably only started caring about the sole of my wedges once I was regularly in the low 80's
