Which hacker swing trait or tic disgusts you the most?

What screams out "This guy is a hopeless hacker lifer" the most to you ?

WIDE open clubface at the top and when you convince them to finally flatten their lead wrist or strengthen their grip for at least 1 swing at the range and they smoke their 150 club which is their 5 iron, 180 yards but they hooked it slightly and they immediately claim that they could do it with their old swing they just haven’t timed it right🤦🏼‍♂️

Not taking a single practice swing or putt before the round.

 

Oh and right hand under the club obviously.

Super strong grip is generally a dead give away. When paired with a very wide, upright stance, splayed feet, and pushing the handle way, way forward - like outside the lead leg on tee shots - you get the classic "I know this ball is going to go viscously right" setup that is the hallmark of your older male muni hack. 

 

4 out of 5 of these gentlemen will also have a dish towel hanging out of the back pocket of their pants. Why? The world may never know....

The awful combo of lack of fundamentals at setup (or 'preset' compensations to try and correct swing faults); grip / stance width / body alignment to target-aim (feet, knees, hips, shoulders) / ball position / distance from the ball / primary tilt / secondary tilt... the swing is complex in itself, at least give yourself a chance to make a good one before any movement...

I would like to watch where their ball goes but I have to look away from the sheer stupidity.

So, your tee balls also go viscously right? If so, you must be putting in the punch out work like CPG to maintain that handicap. 😀 

 

The setup that I described can, at times, look similar to a Moe Norman address position. And yes the ball can be hit effectively in all sorts of different ways. 

 

But, I have yet to see any of these guys hit the ball like Moe Norman. Within the first two inches of the club coming back, you know it's going to be a disaster.

The unathletic setup position that I see all the time is the one where the golfer has all the weight in their heels, with a pretty much upright back, and arms stretched out in front of them. It's like they're riding a horse or something.

I played with a guy for years that did exactly this.  As it turned out, he could shoot a pretty good score because his block/slice was so consistent.  I remember every time he lined up for a shot I would always wonder if he would hit the dreaded straight ball into the adjacent fairway, but for the most part he just blocked it straight down the middle.

I'm not disgusted by it but super weak left hand, with super strong right hand is solid give away of how they play.

Symptoms include: 

1. Not realizing that a 4 hour round is the MAXIMUM time a round should be, not the goal.   
2. Not getting into position to hit quickly while/before others are hitting
3. Taking 2+ practice swings before every shot

I guess it's more of a beginner fault so understandable, but I hate seeing a swing where the trail wrist goes into flexion in the takeaway and then they lunge at the ball with the upper body.

 

I also hate seeing that. Upper body lunges at the ball. Basically any arms/upper body only "full" swings drive my nuts.

 

Also and I swear this is the last one, but poor grips. Like I play with this one guy who places his trail hand fingers flat against the grip... on drives! I get that he's a very casual player, but like he even read just one instruction book, no one would teach that and there's just so much out there on the grip that I find it unexcusable.

I am too cheap to buy a golf towel.  Because redundancy.  I just poke a hole in a dish towel and hang that on my bag.

Then one day, I found a proper golf towel with brass grommet hole in the parking lot.
