For anyone interested in a Phil Mickelson WITB update from Getty image searching the pro am:

 

Some type of Rogue ST Driver and Fairway. This was the same as London but he used the TM 300 Mini as his driver at Brookline.

 

X Forged UT long irons still in so I'd assume the Apex MBs are still in as short irons.

 

The juicy stuff:

I kind of like that idea, have players of the same country , ethnicity playing together. All the Aussies are together too I believe. 

 

The captains picked all their players, so I guess most captains just picked players they knew well or their fellow countrymen.  LIV did not configure it that way.

I think the whole draft and team(s) are suspect in legitimacy. NA for example, while of Asian race is an American. You'd think captains would try to pick the best golfer(s) for their team, as there is prize money at stake.

Yep the "draft" is just for the spectacle. The Stinger and Majesticks team were already predetermined, on what planet would Branden Grace be a 4th round pick in last week's pool of players.

Jeez, they need to get rid of that stupid side-scrolling scoreboard.  It's so intrusive and ruins the watching experience.  And yes, this very much feels like exhibition golf. 

 

The one thing LIV has done well in their two events is picking telegenic courses (and/or camerawork).

OK, 2nd time for LIV, not liking the shotgun starts. Lots of golf shown but tough to get a feel for the course when they're bouncing around to different holes. One reason I'm watching again is to see this course and it looks great but would rather see it in order I guess.

I'm trying to be openminded about this thing, since it could be the future of golf, but the shotgun start and team aspect add nothing of value, and in the case of the shotgun, may actually diminish the experience.

Tuned in because they're playing a track I've been on and wanted to see how the pros play certain holes and wow this has become my reality TV. I can't look away. The leaderboard is something else. It's ever present, lacks context of where anyone is on the course (7 to play!), and the abbreviated names. Not to mention the team logos attached to each player, and the entire endeavor, while never referencing what, I think, is meant to be a Very Important team score.

 

Not to mention the commentary which oscillates between "that's just bad" in reference to a player's shot to "this is the greatest thing to happen to golf." Oh and that every blade of grass seemingly has a mic attached to it and has caught f bombs from players and caddies as well as heckling on nearly every shot. Best overheard yet was someone saying, not yelling, but saying to Phil in a normal speaking voice after missing a putt that: "Tiger woulda made that." This is a wild viewing experience.

 

Edit: I wish Hunter S. Thompson was alive to cover this.

I think the coverage is pretty good so far. I like the camera angles; it’s more ground level work.

 

It looks like the crowds are decent.  
 

This is already better than “The Match” production.

In truth, its not really looking like the future of golf so much as the future of the silly season. Silly season events with odd formats used to be bunched up in the middle of the winter when the PGAT/DPT were at a lull. Now we get to see a few of them interspersed throughout the year.

 

Once the novelty of the concept that was present for the first tournament wore off, we're now seeing what "normal" LIV golf is - and I suspect it will get pretty old pretty quick. Numbers today are already far lower than the first tourney's Thursday. 

 

The format is confusing, and difficult to watch - no sense of flow, context, or continuity. Its just this continuous stream of isolated golf shots. Watched at least some of all three days during the first tournament just to give it a chance. But really ... watched all of 15 minutes today, realized that I not only couldn't care less who wins, but also that while shotguns are fun to play in during charity tournaments, there's a good reason why you virtually never see them used in  pro tournaments, like, anywhere: They are downright irritating to watch.

As someone just wanting to watch golf I would choose LIV over the tour at the moment.  High end tour event maybe not.  I would love to know how many shots are shown in 3 hours of LIV versus 3 hours for the John Deere?

I love golf so i watched the first one and Today as well but it feels super fake not sure if that’s the right word, just doesn’t feel authentic…I think I am going to get bored of this very quickly. I just don’t see it ever growing into what they think it will be

Just popped in for a few more minutes. Is it just me, or is the quality of some of this golf just - pretty bad? I mean, some of these guys are missing fairways, and putts, by a lot. Leader at -5, but #48 at +10? Yeah, the course is sorta tough, but not US Open tough for goodness sake. Feel like I'm watching the collegiate level of golf.

 

And I just heard the announcer say "Schwartzel is undefeated on the LIV Tour!". 

 

And did they seriously actually put mics in the bottom of the cups? How freaking gimmicky can these guys get (not sure, but they certainly are pushing the boundaries).

Really enjoyed Liv golf, they're doing a great job. Can't wait to see who leaves the pga for next months event.
