What ever happened to Hunter Mahan?

I heard him on the No Laying Up podcast the other day and was wondering what happened?  He is only 40 years old and it's like he fell off the earth.

Pretty simple really. He started to suck and then ultimately lost his tour card.

I’m in my 60’s and it’s still my fantasy. 😂

I would guess he is done at this point.  He has not entered a PGAT event since mid 2021.

He was always a fantastic ballstriker but struggled with short game. Almost won the US open if not for one of the worst breaks i've ever seen.

 

I think he got some serious short game yips.

I honestly don’t think how people feel/view themselves has changed as much as ones ability to feel safe(er) expressing it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Quick story. Two years ago my daughter bought a coop in Brooklyn. I went to visit, and her and I went to a neighborhood sports bar to watch the Jets game. 
I had to use the mens room, but it was locked, so I waited by the door. The adjacent room opens up, and out walks a young man. Before I could say anything, a young girl walks out of what I thought was the mens room. Now I’m totally confused.

A woman comes up behind me just at that moment, and I tell her I’m not sure which one I’m supposed to now enter. She tells me bathrooms in the city are now unisex, use whichever one I want.

Here’s the kicker, my daughter knew this, and knew how flummoxed I’d be, so when I walked back to the table, her and the server were laughing hysterically.

Crazy world…

My son lives in Nashville, not NY but a pretty big, diverse city. He has enjoyed watching me make a fool of myself on numerous occasions.

Guys like Mahan still play golf at a much higher level than the rest of us, but it's such a fine line to keep playing elite golf (Top 100 in the world). These guys are walking a tightrope their entire career.

I always loved watching Mahan play. He is kind of like a poor man's version of David Duval. Mahan didn't shine quite as brightly or for quite as long, but both had beautiful swings, played some amazing golf for a short period, and then just sort of evaporated.

 

Duval was chasing performance and suffered injuries, if memory serves. I think Mahan just had other priorities - in addition to some very public and memorable short game troubles.

yea he was a good ball striker but I'm pretty sure he played a draw when he was a top player. His swing was looking pretty top notch in Jan. 2021 on his instagram but he missed like every cut he entered that year. Only made like 50 grand in like 20 events and hasn't tee'd it up since 2021.

 

I was looking for him in the John deere classic field but he isn't playing it, must of lost his card for good.
