Recommendation for Stable, “Grippy” Golf Shoes

Recommended Posts

I need help with my footwork and lower body mechanics.  I know that’s largely an issue with the carpenter and not the tools, but I’ll take all the help I can get.

My main lower body issues are:  (1) In my backswing, I tend to roll onto the outside of my trail foot, which makes it hard to shift my weight forward; and (2) my front foot tends to “wander around” on the transition/downswing, instead of planting firmly.

So, I need shoes with a really stable base that will help prevent problem 1, AND that have good “grippy” spikes that will help with problem 2.   I have found shoes that have one or the other, but not both.    Any recommendations?

Thanks

FJ DryJoys Premiere and Gfore Gallivanter are both very stable and have excellent grip. Based on what you describe, you should be looking for something with a more traditional golf shoe construction. I have never gotten along well with Adidas, but the Tour 360 that @dekez mentioned is also in this group.

Or Squairz. Definitely Squairz.

Thanks for the responses.   I stumbled across Sqairz in my research and I'm definitely intrigued.   But it looks like they only sell online, and I'm a little leery about buying shoes without trying them on first.

Premieres are the way forward. There's a reason Tiger - who makes a lot of money selling his own Nike shoes - started using premieres when he came back. TBH Nike was probably really upset with this decision but they are obscenely stable.

I've tried pretty much every premium shoe made over the years, my favorite is Sqairz.  Super stable, very comfortable and actually waterproof.  I also like the free lifetime spikes and the laces that don't come undone.

I bought same size I wear in Allen Edmonds, they fit perfectly.

Paradym 9.5

Rogue ST Max HL 3wd (really a 4wd)

Apex Pro 21 3 & 4

Apex 21 Mixed Combo Set 5-A

Jaws 5 54* C-grind

PM Grind 2.0  58*

For me and my Fred Flinstone feet the most stable (recently made) shoes I've found are:

Jordan ADG3.  Bonus they are on sale.  The tread pattern is aggressive and durable for a non-spiked shoe.  The wide toe area provides stability and they comfortable as all get out.  I am a 10 in Nike but 9.5 in Jordans.

I'll second the Tour 360 but the BOA version for me is >>>>>> than non-boa.   $250 though is steep.  Feels like a slipper with stability of a boot.

I tried Squairz when they were first released and didn't care for them.   Which is fine, different strokes for different folks and all that.  But you do take a hit on return with the restocking fee.  It was somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 if memory serves.

Yeah the Squairz comment was a joke, I just can't take them seriously with their absurd distance claims, paid spokespeople, and hideous styling. Although honestly they probably are pretty stable.

Love my FJ Premieres. My feet do not move around when I swing, extremely stable. I'm sure the Tour Alphas are also another great option.

Probably like most that frequent this forum, I have tried quite a few brands of footwear over the years and agree that all of the beforementioned options are worth considering. However, just wanted to throw PUMA PWRADAPT into the conversation as well. Having worn them for a couple of seasons, they have proven to be extremely stable and equally as comfortable. May not be your style of footwear but they will cost a little less than some of the other models mentioned in this thread.

I would imagine the new PUMA IGNITE Articulate would be a solid option as well. I have not tried them yet.....but I will.

I loved my FJ Tour X, IMO it was the holy grail.  I should have stocked up on them when I had the chance.  I haven't tried the Tour Alpha, but I did just switch to Premiers, and they are just as stable as my Tour X were.  I am a FJ Premier believer.

It may be have been a joke, but as skeptical as I was, I am now an equal fan.  Personally, I didn't see any distance gains.  But they are VERY comfortable and completely stable.  This coming from a guy with bad feet and plantar fasciitis.

I just returned a new pair of Sqairz for fit reasons and the cost was only 12 bucks for a UPS label from them.  I felt it was fair enough since I didn’t have to drive around to stores and such.

It's a good thing they changed their return policy.  I never mind taking a chance on an online only product and I knew the risks (at the time).  I wouldn't take a chance on trying out Sqairz again for potentially being out $60 on a return but $12 is another story.

New Balance Strikers are a great pair of shoes.  More cushion on the inside compared to something like the FJ premiere
