His putting woes are over exaggerated. He is good on close and avoiding 3 putts. He has some bad ranges but plenty of worse putters have won including last week.

ehh. Straka really didn't give anything a way,  Zalatoris still had to drain some high pressure putts. His par putt to make the playoff,the par putt on the 2nd playoff hole, and the close out putt were all clutch

Is Straka hits his tee shot into yhe center of the green on thr par 3 after seeing what zalatoris' ball did then it's game over. To rinse one after zalatoris' shot was a give away.

Zalatoris still was in a dicey spot and ultimately still got up and down from 95yrds when straka couldn't. He still had to make a good shot and drained the putt. I am not sure how we can discount the execution of Zalatoris just because Straka had a stumble.

I wasn't discounting zalatoris. I am simply saying that they both stayed in the playoff. But once zalatoris hit his par 3 tee shot, Straka should have been aimed 10 feet left of that pin.

 

Zalatoris gets up and down for 4, Straka 2 putts for 3.

Will initially holding a long iron after the errant tee shot against the fence on 18 and then appearing to contemplate a shot from the rocks on 11 were nothing more than weak attempts at thespianism to seek approval from the gallery, TV viewers and social media.  It was a little too melodramatic for my taste.  I hope he grows up. 

 

The proof and validation will come next week.

I think Will’s demons were effectively exorcised. You could hear his relief as his fiancée held him after he made that putt. I would expect with all of that talent he’s going to dominate, if not in the remaining playoffs then in ‘23. He is already #9 OWGR.

So I was wrong. Willy Z won and while -15 isn't quite a birdie fest it isn't a stiff test either. Good for him. If he gets to where he is consistently not losing strokes to the field putting then look out.

That is correct.  He didn't close it out.  Straka lost the event with a few poor shots.   

Like I said, we'll see where the chips fall next week for young Will.
