*Graphite Design Lovers Anonymous* Tour AD UB vs IZ vs XC and NOW vs TP! ...and HD....and VR

@mokedaddy, I haven't hit the DJ so can't comment personally. Agree with your comparison of MT vs MJ; MJ is definitely softer in the handle and tip.   I have both in my garage.  I do best with whiteboard profiles (softish handle, stiff mid) and prefer the MJ to the MT for that reason.

Speaking of GD hoes anonymous I figure I’d toss a pic from my workbench right now 😂

…they’re all posted for sale but the struggle is real.

I can relate.  Will be putting a few shafts up on BST, including an MT-6X and XC-6TX.  Someone might as well enjoy them.

The dj feels a little stiff at the handle but to me it’s pretty mushy at the tip.  It goes down in stiffness pretty quickly.  Definitely doesn’t sound like a good fit for you.  Or many people I’ve seen honestly.

I haven’t hit a lot of shafts like it.  Maybe an old school aldila DVS? I don’t have a lot if experience with it because I do better with a little stiffer tip.

Change of schedule so I just did 20 shots of each shafts.

In short: CQ should be renamed to TTF. This Thing Flies!

Testing against IZ and Tensei 1K Black in TSR3

CQ 6s in Sim2 Max

Background info

SS: 100

hc: 12

Driver is my weakest game.

IZ and 1K was ok. I liked 1K better for some reason.

CQ's Launch was high. Noticeably higher than IZ and 1K.

I had 4-5 shots that felt like the ball would never fall down. I took my gc3 and it showed backspin @ 400rpm. It was a crappy range ball but the flight of the ball was the best I've seen for my swing.

It's too bad that I sold the cq with titleist tip. SIM2 has that shots where the ball jumps off the face with no spin (probably the shot explained above)

Now, I would have to put CQ in my pxg gen5 and I feel like it will go into the bag.

In conclusion.  If you have hard time launching the ball high, CQ is the Tour AD shaft to get.

Tried the Tour AD IZ 6S again today.

Just didn’t hit it well compared to the AD DI.  Swapped shafts and played my round of golf with the DI.

MT is up next once I get some more Cobra adapters as it has a Callaway tip on it now.

The recent review of the CQ has peaked my interest.

Because I had it with me and had some time to kill I tried the Tour AD IZ 6S shaft this week in my Cobra LTDX 3 wood set at 16.5 degrees, since the shaft was already tipped and was a little shorter than usual for a driver.

It performed well, but not as well as the Tour AD DI 7S that is in there now.  Slightly lower ball flight for me compared to the DI in the 3W.

Also put it in the Cobra LTDx 7 wood just because and hit it a few times.  Despite it being long for a 7 wood shaft it performed well, but not any better than what is in there now.  Thinking that a AD IZ 7S or 8S might be the shaft for 7 wood.

Removed the Callaway tip from the AD MT 6S and epoxied on a Cobra adapter yesterday.  Will try to hit it in the next several days.

Feeling right now that the Tour AD DI 6S is performing better as I get used to it.

Funny how some people get low launch from the IZ when its supposed to be high-er launch than the DI. I got high launch with it but the feel was fantastic.

I just realized I've never hit an AD GP. So, like a good GD ho, I have one incoming for my 3 wood. Found a black edition GP oddly enough with an 'old' Callaway adapter (Optifit 3 that they havent used in 3 cycles) so I'll be comparing it against my AD TP for the 3 wood spot. I dont necessarily want to change out my TP but you know, this is why we're here 😂

  • 2 weeks later...

Tried the Tour AD-MT 6s this week.  Wasn’t able to really take many full swings the first day as I did something to my neck and could barely turn my head.

The few partial swings produced very straight shots.  Was encouraged.

Took it out again the next day with better neck mobility and played 18 holes and had a good round.

Will play again this week and put it up head to head against the Tour AD-DI 6s.

Very interested to see what happens!

In all seriousness, I've played the BB7X in my driver back when the OG Epic came out and the DI 7X in my M1.  I had not played one since then.  This year, I got fitted for my new TSr 3 with a UB 7 TX and have really really gotten along with it. Accuracy galore like I haven't had since my OG Epic.  Then, while perusing eBay I saw an AD VR 8Tx for cheap and bought it.  Promptly put it in my 3 wood and did not so much as take a practice swing with it, before playing.  Grabbed it on a tight par 4, hit a perfect shot and immediately knew it was the one.

Now, I've found a NEW TSi2 5 wood with an IZ 8X for less than the used cost of a good TSi2 5 wood!  I'm in Graphite Design heaven right now.

As long as I get in the correct weight shaft, more than flex even, I feel like I can time up my swing so well with these shafts.

Where has this shaft been all my life. It's like a whiteboard with super feel. Super distinct load hinge like the DI but further up the shaft towards the handle and you can REALLY feel it. Reading dozens of past posts from the years on the AD GP kinda scared me away from it with words like 'boardy' but wow they couldnt have been more wrong based on what I'm feeling.

Super stable brings the flight down just a touch vs the AD TP I had in my 3 wood. Very anti-left, too.

...and of course now I want to test the AD GP 6 in driver. F me.

Yeah the hinge is much closer to the handle compared to other GD shafts.  And the stiff tip (stiffest in their entire model range, I think) gives you the low launch and anti-left. Still have a GP 6X in my garage.  Not gaming it, but can't bring myself to sell it.

Some GD shafts (the GP comes to mind) get very stiff as you approach the end of the tip. Tipping such shafts will bring the end of the tip closer to the hinge, making it softer and theoretically weaker.

The MT, while not as tip-stiff as the GP, still shows a profile where the hinge is close to the tip, and the above scenario might apply.  Credit to below image goes to golfshaftreviews.info.  Highly recommend a subscription if you enjoy researching shafts...

I do not. If shaft manufacturer's don't recommend it, I usually don't do it.  Some mf'ers recommend it and actually encourage it, but not GD for some reason.

I grabbed it because the feel of the IZ is so nice. When testing it prior its the main thing I remember about the IZ. So easy to load and launch.

I was using 10.5* heads at the time and I just moved down to a 9* head in my current setup. With the AD HD I have now, the +1 loft setting seems too high and spinny and 9* is a touch too low flight but spin is perfect. If I can raise the flight up a smidge with the IZ and match my romanticized memories of how it feels vs the AD HD (which is more linear) I'll be in love.

But I generally set myself up for a big letdown when I make things out to be better than they are so we'll see 😂
